I am looking at an Air Nautique, model year 2000 and it has a 5.0L engine. Most Sport and Air Nautiques I have seen adverised have a 5.8L engine. I realize power helps, but how important, how much of a difference does it make in the buy, no buy decision? Looking to buy my first Nautique and need advise. Thanks

RE: Engine size make a huge difference on an Air Nautique
I don't believe that the 5.0 came in a SANTE that year. What model are you buying?

RE: Engine size make a huge difference on an Air Nautique
Yes, the 302 GM engine was an option, or it might have been the base engine pretty much nobody ordered.
If you use the boat for barefooting, or slalom skiing you will notice it does not have quite the pull that the GT-40 has, and the top speed might be off a MPH or two.
for wakeboarding, unless you overload the boat, you will not have any problem.
Use the smaller engine to negotiate a lower price.

RE: Re: RE: Engine size make a huge difference on an Air Nau
I have been in a SN with the base 5.0. It was a dog out of the hole compared to a 5.7. Most people would be happier with the 5.7 but take it for a drive and see if it suits your needs. Just remember, if you get it and don't like the motor you'll be coughing up some coin to to mod your motor another 50hp.

I have had 3 Nautiqes with different motors, I had the GT40, a 330 Excalibur, and currently have the 285hp PCM on a 216 Air. Motor is is alittle sluggish, but it has worked fine for wakeboarding with the boat full of people and tanks full. Slalom skiing is a little slow out of the water,- I personally like it though, I have never needed someone to slam the throttle down to get me out of the water- much faster and it would just pull my arms out of the sockets. Anyway its a good motor, my next boat I will probably head for a larger motor 300-330 hp range with a 1:1 trans.
