I am in Orlando FL and it will be 36 tonight and 28 tomorrow night. I have NEVER thought about my boat in winter weather and did not realize you even had to prepare for it... born and raise in Fl.... I will be figuring some things out tonight
Holy freezing heater cores Bat Man. It is darn cold.
I'm concerned about this front. Looks brutal. My wife is sending updates and I'm watchin wunderground.
My other problem is that I've traveled to Lagos Nigeria where it is like 90 F during the day. I brought no coat. I'm going to be one cold dude on that shuttle bus from IAH to the parking lot.
POSSIBILITY OF ROTATING OUTAGES THIS EVENING AND TOMORROW MORNING
A Power Emergency indicates that the regional electric grid operator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), has instructed utilities to implement rotating outages to reduce load.
ERCOT is asking consumers to reduce energy consumption during peak-demand times this evening -- 6-10 pm โ and tomorrow morning from 6 โ 8 am.
The grid continues to have more than 5,000 MW of generation out of service due to the effect of the extreme cold.
Tonightโs peak demand is forecast to hit 54,900 MW between 7-8 pm. The morning peak was 53,223 MW โ with 4,000 MW dropped via rotating outages -- at 9-10 am.
At this time, the forecast for tomorrowโs peak load is 56,800 MW for 7-8 am.
ERCOTโs current record for all time winter peak demand is 55,878 MW, which occurred on Jan. 8, 2010.
Rotating outages are controlled, temporary interruptions of electrical service initiated by each utility when supplies of reserve power are exhausted. Without this safety valve, generators would overload and begin shutting down to avoid damage, risking a domino effect of a state-wide outage.
Utilities/ transmission providers determine the location/scheduling of the rotating outages.
A weather update for the Yankees. 18 degrees with a microscopically thin layer of ice on the roads, covered by 1/4 inch of snow. Schools in SoTex are closed, as are all interstates in San Antonio. Governor is considering state of emergency. And you think we can't handle winter weather????
I did go and drain the block and risers on the 200 on Tuesday. It's freaking cold this time! lol
I got back from Nigeria earlier today and went to the boat barn and wrapped the engine in an electric blanket like I did last year. I should have just drained it but was worn out from two weeks in the bush. I took a big UPS with me to plug the blanket into in case the power blinks....the controller will stay "on"
Ours is in our lift. We were going to pull it and put it inside Dockside's service building but we kept skiiing instead. LOL. It only takes 10 minutes to pull all the plugs so to be safe, I just drained it. Might go and put the plugs back in it today and get a set.
If it is not windy, and not much below freezing, the block will retain enough heat to stay warm for a day or so easily. If the boat has a cover on it, or is inside a building, it will stay warm for a day, also.
