Planned ballast system for my DD

The Jabsco pumps are the best, that being said if money is an issue you can also check out Simer 12V pumps (I got mine at Fleet Farm) These are not really Marine pumps so I wouldnt mount them in the bilge area but if you are putting them in the trunk or up under the observers seat I don't think there should be any issues. The Simer pumps are usually less than 100 bucks.

The problems with the Simer pumps are finding new impellars if you burn them out, obviously you can't roll into your local CC dealer and get them.

I need some opinions on my ballast system.
1. I'm using the hard tanks but the inlet fitting is only 1/2". So I'm planning on one of two things.
a. cut off the thread insert and bore out the existing hole so my 1-1/2" to 1" thread insert will fit and epoxy it in?
b. cap off the original inlet and drill and hole next to it and epoxy my 1-1/2" to 1" insert?

2. I got a sheet of stamped aluminum from work to mount my ballast puppies on and one side of it is stamped. I'm mounting this in my rear locker so it will be visible. Do I.
a. Let the aluminum sheet show?
b. cover it with carpet?

Matt, I think you are going to need more rear - side weight to surf (based on my attempts to date on my 99 Air). With 2x 400 V-drive sacs on the surf side, the wake was just barely surfable.
