    Recall for FCT3 Towers!

    DATE: December 21, 2009

SUBJECT: Water settling in the rear tube of certain FCT3 towers leaving potential for freeze damage.

MODELS AFFECTED: All FCT3 Towers shipped prior to December 2009.

    TIME OF COMPLIANCE: Immediately

Roswell Wake Air has determined an unknown quantity of FCT3 towers have shipped with insufficient drainage in the rear lower tubes from August 2008 through December 2009.

Proper drainage must be placed on the tubes in order to prevent water from holding in the affected areas. This water leaves potential for the tube to burst if exposed to freezing temperatures.
If proper drainage is not accomplished damage to the tower may occur.

Curious what the dealer is going to do. Drill a weephole?

            INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLIANCE:
            · Thoroughly inspect tower base for damage prior to beginning.

            MATERIALS NEEDED:
            · Drill
            · Very sharp 1/16” metal drill bit.
            · Low tack masking tape.
            · Tape measure.
            · Sharpie

            PROCEDURE:

Please Note: It is very important to use low tack masking tape and a sharp drill bit to prevent damage to the towers finish. Do not use a set or punch to start the hole.

            · On the exterior of the tower lightly place a piece of low tack masking tape centered 4” up the rear tube from the deck of the boat.
            · Using the sharpie place a small dot on the tape in the center of the rear tube 4” up from the deck facing the exterior of the boat.
            · Use the 1/16” drill bit to drill a hole on the mark.
o Let the drill bit do the work and make sure you are holding it perpendicular to the tower. You should not need much pressure.
            · Carefully remove the tape.
            · Repeat the process on the opposite leg of the tower.

If this is an acutal issue, what can I get from Mfg (Correct Craft and/or your tower vedor) that tells me I am not violating warranty by drilling hole in my 5 month old boat tower? Looking at your fix it diagram, it appears you want a side weep hole drilled to help out the possibly not sufficient factory drilled bottom weep hole as that could only be accessed by un bolting and taking down/apart the tower.

I'd rather have dealer or authorized service dealership do this. I checked around and nobody had an actual recall notice with a 'send this fix to your customers if they want to do themselves or offer to do the fix if not' .... We are in Columbus OHio so has already been 10 degrees over night for weeks now..and boat is of course in storage.... Suggestions as to how to get inspected for the possible damage alread done..action steps...etc?

Diggityd, I've recieved the paperwork on the recall at the shop and we have begun doing the recall on boats. It will not void warranty. Best bet is as always let your local dealer do it.... 1, it doesnt cost a thing since its a recall, and 2, if they screw it up youre not out a tower. I have not personally seen one frozen yet but i have heard that when the water expands and freezes that it busts out the lower portion of the tower.....

That is why everyone speaks so highly of White Lake Marine.... Thanks and I did go inspect it in dry (cold) storage (Ohio) last week..no visable damage and since it was in winter storage for a month plus with 60 degree temps...likely no water in there anyway..but I have yet to get actual recall paperwork of any kind from dealer I bought from...I'll touch base with them and let them do the recall work April 1 when I come out of storage...since I have the JOY of having also the ZO 'surging' speed control to replace...will be a good little bit of warranty work for them.

You'd think factory/subs would catch all this BS before they shipped after all these years. 2009 SAN 210 with all the toys and still the gadgets take 1-3 years to get all right. I should trade in to you and get a YELLOW 2010 SAN TE 210..... Hmmmm
