    1999 Pro Air or suggestions?

Greetings, I am new to inboards but not boating. I have a 12 year old wakeboarder and a 15 year old skier and a couple of old guys like me who will do anything but only for 5 minutes before we feel our age. I am considering a 1999 Pro air for an all around boat. We need an open bow for kids as we have alot of visitors.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments...looking forward to hearing feedback.

By the way the Pro Air has 900 hours, looks great, one-owner for 15K?

    THANKS!! Bill

Ps-Sorry I originally put this under boats for sale by mistake>

Welcome to the site, I think you'll definitely get some opinions here.
I have a '99 Pro Air and have really enjoyed the boat, I originally purchased with the same type of mission as you have described, ie. learned to slalom back in the day, and was interested in improving my wakeboarding skills. The Pro Air is a better wakeboard boat than a slalom boat, but for recreational skiing, it's fine. If you're just getting into inboards, this boat is easier to work on than a V-drive, but the sacrifice you will make is loss of seating/space with a direct drive.

As far as the $$, that is a good price for that boat, depending on condition. Things to consider, does it have the original tower (rear feet are very close to the end of the windshield, and it's a "one piece" design)? If yes, that tower is more difficult to find accessories to fit because of the small tubing diameter (I think it's 1 5/8" instead of the 1 7/8" of the Generation 2 towers built from 2000-2003). Does it have Perfect Pass? Some people complain that Perfect Pass has a hard time holding speed on this hull because of the strakes in the bottom. Mine works pretty well, and is definitely an improvement over hand throttling the boat while wakeboarding. Where the paddle wheel for PP is mounted is important on this hull, center line on the hull behind the drain plug seems to be the best spot for minimizing the effects of the strakes.
900 hours is nothing to worry about on these boats, probably better that is has averaged ~90 hours per year of it's life against a boat that has been sitting for a long time unused. Most of these engines will go to 2000+ hours without major problems. If you haven't worked on inboards before, it would probably be worth paying the local dealer to do an inspection for you on this boat if you're serious about purchasing it.

Great time to be in the market for an inboard!

Thanks....I appreciate the input! Any comments on this boat vs. a 2000 Mastercraft X-5 with 300 hours at the same price?

as a Nautique owner I cannot comment myself, but will offer a disclaimer that you are on a Nautique website and are likely to get partial advice

          1999 PRO AIR

we used to have a 99 Pro Air ,second best Nautique we ever owned . They ride a little low in the water , no problem just need to keep the bow up at times . We now are the proud owners of a 220 !! Only reason we traded up was becouse we just needed the extra room !!! If we had nothing but money we would still have that 99 and prob put more hours on it this summer !!! 99 Pro Air GREAT RIDE !!!

If your more of a skier the MC will win hands down. It's an open bow version of the prostar hull from 95-97 and ski's very well. The open bow is small, but its still an open bow.

I wouldn't buy anything that doesn't have a PCM power plant. PCM is bullet proof I read about a lot of costly problems with Indmar and Mercruiser. Just my opinion?

I like the 1999 - 2002 Sport/Air Drive drives for excellent all around boats - here is one getting ready for sale

This boat looks like a cream puff well worth the extra money for the lower hours.
