ANY IDEAS FOR A GREAT LAKE TO HOST A FAMILY REUNION

My father in law is planning a get together for all his kids, grandkids, etc. to celebrate his 60th birthday. The family members are in Maryland, DC and FLORIDA. Where would a great lake be in George, Alabama, Virginia, or South Carolina where a huge house could be rented on a lake?

    thanks.

Can't beat a good houseboat vacation on Dale Hollow Lake in KY/TN..... Not a huge house on a lake, however great fun for the money!

      1) Smith Mountain Lake in Va was going to be a get together site for PN a short while back but it fell through.
      2) Not sure about rentals but my understanding is that Lake Keowee in SC is beautiful.
      3) Lake Gaston in NC/Va would be a nice split in driving and is not far from 95

        Smith Lake in Alabama.
Will be hard to find rental homes this nice and at this price on a lake this big and clean. If you have any questions give me a shout.
Here is a link to some homes for rent. This is a huge lake so not everywhere is close to places to eat or stores.

There are a number of great lakes to choose from, go to VRBO.com and look at the house rentals at each of the lakes. I'm partial to Lake Hartwell in NE Georgia, it sits right on I-85 and it's one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the southeast, plus there are hundreds of rental houses available. We have one there, but it wouldn't be big enough for multiple families, but I do know of a number of huge houses for rent. If you need any information on areas on the lake send me a note.

Lake Keowee in SC is beautiful. It's close to Greenville and there are lot's of big houses you can rent on the lake with docks.
              Peace..

Another vote for both Hartwell along the GA/SC state line as well as Keowee in SC. One of the most beautiful lakes around here is Jocassee in the Western part of SC, just up river of Keowee. Not sure about accommodations for large groups though, the lake is not very developed and Devils Fork SP only has small cabins and they are hard to get, but you may find a vacation rental there.

Lake Watauga in Western NC, West of Boone NC along the NC TN line is a nice lake.

Another one you might consider is Lake James in NC. It's not far from Hickory, Asheville, and Boone so if someone wanted to go see the NC mtns instead of be on the lake they could.

Another vote for Smith Mountain Lake in VA. Its reasonably big with great coves, clean water, and good rentals with usable yards and docks. We're going to rent there again this coming year. A small but really, really beautiful mountain lake that may be central to everyone is Lake Rabun in Northern Georgia . Its one of my favorite places. Most (many) houses have fixed boat houses with nice decks on the second story for great nights hanging by the water.

I've never been but have friends that rent at Norris and they rave about it!

Kind of late because I just came across this thread. I would try Lake Martin in Alabama. It is between Montgomery and Atlanta. Very big, beautiful lake with lots of lake houses to rent. Fad family lake vacation there a couple of years ago. 10 adults, 6 kids. Great house right on the water with a dock. Had a great vacation.
