Dealer won't take my boat in on trade because of upgrades???

Maybe the dealer did not want to offend you by his low offer and felt that it was just better to tell you that he could not take your boat in at all. Based on what you are asking this might have been my answer if you wanted to trade it to one of my buddies?

I know that what I am asking on my own, I would not even get close from the dealer. I never told the dealer what I wanted out of the boat, so he had no idea how much I expected. Oh well, I've had two people inquire about the boat, so we'll see what happens. I would be WAY more apt to negotiate right now if the boat I want is still for sale.

The boat I was looking to purchase was an 03 SAN. It's basically the same boat I have now and I probably would have had to add a few things (extra ballast), but the newer styling and larger interior would have been worth it to me I guess. I guess we'll see what happens. I'm definitely very happy with the boat I have now, so no skin off my back if I don't sell it.

The dealers usually have to finance a trade (and that is very hard to do these days with tigtened credit) if they don't have the cash...

And in this economic environment I would bet that thier cash is something that they either dont have much of or they are holding on to it to survive.

There are dealers out there that are and can financially take trades but they are being very selective on what they will pay for it and what it is for a trade.

Do you guys really think a ballast pump can do any worse that a slightly worn impeller pump? Best practice is to watch for is steam coming from the exhaust, this is the first indication you have that your cooling system is being starved for any reason regardless of what the termperature gauge shows. Sorry about the idiot line, I should not have followed down that path. Lot's of us are comfortable T'ing into the fresh water line. I have not read anything posted that raises any question so I will continue to do it on my boats (oh, I also remove the caution stickers too, but don't tell anybody). It works FOR ME and many others so to each his own. If I burn up my motor that will just give me the excuse I need to upgrade to that nice HT383 build-up I have been wanting. It's an opinion and like our discharge port we all have one, now everybody knows mine on the subject.

JWAT - keep that boat, reconfigure the seating if you must. IN MY OPINION that boat is more desirable with the GT-40 powerplant than the same hull with a 330ex. I even like the looks of your boat better than the 2003. It has only 375 hours, it is barely broken-in. Just think of how hard it will be to get the new boat to the operational condition of what you have now...

Is it possible Corey meant this T came after the RWP? You could fill the ballast w/o an additional pump. That would most definitely rob the engine of cooling water!

You tap into the cooling system behind the impeller so it acts as the filling pump. Some people do this because they are afraid to put a hole in the boat. A valve is used to kill the flow when the ballast is full. Not the way I would do things but I would be curious how the temps vary when filling the ballast.

Selling boats privetely and at a dealer are a little different, people have different expectations for how things are installed and more so, who pays if something breaks.

From a liability standpoint it doesnt matter where the ballast T's into the cooling system. If we sell the boat and it overheats I want there to be NO question as to why it occurred. We take a lot of pride in our customer service and I don't think the benefit outweighs the risk when it comes to overheating the engine. We will drill a seperate through hull everytime just to be safe.

Even in a good market or w/o upgrades do you think the dealer would come even remotely close to your asking price on a trade?
Not sure how it works in Indiana, but in Illinois you pay tax on the purchase price, less a trade if applicable, so if you can sell it on your own for dealer trade value + tax you are square, anything after that is bonus $$$.

I bought JWAT's 97 Super Sport/SAN. This is an incredible boat, he did an incredible job upgrading it and maintaining it.
