Wow! Was this just a coincidence that you wondered where your boat was or did you see it for sale???
This happens alot in the car industry....ALOT Many states DMV's do not communicate in any way shape or form with other states. Nothing against the state of Texas but many car dealers there get away with this, and I'm almost positive it's even easier to "wash" a title on a boat. Meaning, a dealer in NY for example will buy a salvaged or branded title vehicle, sell it to a dealer in TX, that dealer re-titles the car in that state, and magically all title history prior to TX is gone!
Do a quick search on autotrader for highline (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) cars and look at the ratio of low priced cars in TX versus a similar car in FL (very strict state)
Its a shame that these guys get away with this but it's a way to make a quick dime. Where do you think all those hurricane Katrina flooded cars ended up? Not in the crusher, but unsuspecting peoples driveways!
It's even bolder that the dealer wants a premium for this salvaged boat, usually these guys will be a little cheaper on this stuff for the quick flip. Good job following up, most people woulda just shrugged it off.
