    Increased HP etc w/ Aquatune?

Just ran across this in Popular Mechanics.

Anyone have any experience with it?

Would it void the warranty or cause any damage?

What if I put it on my 03' Z71 Tohoe and 03' X-Star?

    What do you think?

OK, I'll bite. I ran a system on a Mustang in the 80's pretty similiar to this, I think it was made by Holley. Ended up spending a lot on isopropyl alcohol and distilled water with no noticible performance or economy improvement. I was, however, able to run a couple more degrees total timing advance without pinging. (The pinging was the reason I put it on in the first place). The only thing I would notice when the water tank ran out was a little pinging, no loss in HP. I only ran it for about 5,000 miles, and ended up changing the oil every 1,000 miles because it became very milky looking, obviously there was some water that wasn't being burned off. I am sure the long term durability of the engine was compromised. Maybe this new system is better, but that is my experience in the past. If you use it you should be very careful to not induce water / alcohol upstream of any Mass Airflow Senosrs.

I don't buy those large HP and economy gains. And, I certainly would not put one on my boat. That thing has enough Hp in my opinion. Back in my younger days I liked to add these bolt on Hp toys to my cars. Just spent alot of money with not much in the way of gains. Just my .02cents.

Thanks for the feedback!! I thought is was an interesting idea. The whole 1/2 gas 1/2 water - Steam Engine idea? I've never heard of these devices and was interested. It would seem everyone would be using them if they were that awesome.

            Anyone ELSE??

Ya, give her a try on your X-star and let us know how it turns out.

cdm, you hit it on the head. If it was such a hot item that gives such gains, we should be seeing them in every hot rod shop. The point is, the manufacturer, with millions of miles of testing has their stuff pretty much figured out. Most of the time, anything you bolt on has the potential of upsetting a something. For example, I bolted on underdrive pulleys on my Mustang. These did make a slight difference by reducing some parasitic drag. However, my battery suffered because of the different size pulley on the alternator.

The diesel truck boys have been running these types of systems. The biggest problem is the carrying capacity for the water. You darn near need a second gas tank for the water, on top of that most of them are using washerfluid with the methenol to get some extra bang, but then it also starts to cost more money. I would say you are better off just staying stock.

We ran one in our Mustang 429 Super Cobra Jet, We had a hard time f octaininding race gas so the car would not ping. We added the water injection and we were able to run super pump gas 92 octain. But i wouldnt say there was a HP increase
