    CC Engine HP options

    Engine Options

I am trying to decide between a Malibu and a CC. We're demoing the CC tomorrow, just curious as to why the CC engine options are lower HP than Malibu or MC? Is there ever an issue with pulling, say a large person out of the water if the ballasts are full and so it the boat?

    Thanks

Angels5. Welcome to the site. I wouldn't worry too much about horsepower ratings from manufacturers. What is most important is torque. In this regard, CC has used, as standard equipment, the PCM power plus tranny. It's a gear reduction transmission--1.23 to 1. This tranny multiplies the torque and provides an awesome hole shot. The Malibu uses a one to one tranny. CC hasn't used a one to one tranny as standard equipment since around 1988. Nonetheless, there is nothing wrong with the hole shot on a Bu, either.

You won't have any trouble power wise on a CC. The motors are smooth and quiet. The PCM tranny on the CC is much quieter and smoother than the Malibu tranny. What boats are you looking at?

We test drove the SV211 & SAN 210. I liked them both. Storage is an issue for us. We have 3 kids, all boys and never go anywhere without at least 1-2 add'l kids. I like the seating better on the 210, but the storage on the 211. The other boats we've been looking at are a 05VLX or a 04 LSV. CC is a better built boat w/a better warranty. Malibu is more cosmetically pleasing, but I'm hearing not so great service stories with the Bu dealer in my area.

They're all around the same price, so it's now just down to picking one and making a deal. Or waiting until the LA boat show when they're both in one place so you can look at them within minutes vs weeks of each other.

      Wish me luck

Warranty and dealers are very important in mine and most people's minds.

Good luck. It's fun shopping for and buying a boat.

Hi, if your worried about horsepower, don't. The CC engines as the other guy said are really smooth, powerful and the gear ratio is probably the best in town, making the boat extremely driveable. Recently we had a couple of boats delivered with the new ZR6 engine. This comes with 375 of the finest horses and is super smooth, in fact its one of the most impressive power plants seen for a long time. The boats are a pleasure to drive, and combined with CC's build quality they are really hard to beat. The SV211TE when loaded with stock ballast throws a nice wakeboard wake but in our opinion the SANTE is still the undisputed heavyweight in the wakeboard scene. However with kids and if plenty of room is paramount then the SV211 fits the bill, especially if you aint gonna wakeboard 24/7 and still like a bit of variation such as slalom/inflatables etc. Being able to close off the ballast independently in the CC boats and having the guages really enables you to manipulate the bllast and wakes for riders of varying levels (ie Kids). This is a godsend as my kids are able to learn more progressively. Hope whichever boat you buy both you and your family have great times ahead.......all the best

Malibu v-drives use a gear reduction trans...only the direct drives still have 1:1.

Thanks Edwin. Didn't know that. Why don't they put them in the direct drives?

SGY- The reduction is actually in the V gearing that makes it a V drive- not the trans. Right?

SGY - per the peeps at Malibu, the hulls are efficient enough to not need a gear reduction trans to obtain good performance. Personally I think it would be a great addition to some of the larger direct drive boats.

M3Fan, not sure. I have very little expierence in a vdrive. I bet someone else on this board could chime in though.

Edwin, yeah, I've never been in a Bu that had problems getting up to speed. Their hulls are very efficient. Pretty interesting how the manufacturers go about things so differently--hull design wise. Looking at the RLXI and 206 hulls, you could not find two more different looking designs.
