I went through this a while back and ended up buying a 2008 216 TE DD, I looked real hard at the X14 DD and am so glad i didnt go for it, i hear over and over again that the ski wake is lousy, the 216 is no 196 or New 200 but it is pretty good and in fact awesome for a boat that is 21' 6" long with a tower and tanks. What other boat can you go ski the course, then load it up with 10 people, go wakeboard and yes surf behind? we surfed tons last year and it was great. My take is either you buy this boat and make some compromise or you buy 2 boats. I looked at every option out there and other than owning 2 boats which doesnt work for me this was the best choice hands down.

The X14DD has a very good slalom wake. Very close to the 197. OK, let the bashing begin.

Some of you guys know I'm a MC guy, but I never bash CC. Not that I don't want everyone to form their own opinions, but some of the comments about the 14 are misleading to those who may have never been behind one.

I don't think you'll see too much MC bashing around here. I actually stated that the 214V may be the way to go for Heli. I was an MC guy to the core for most of my life, but found out a couple years ago that CC made the boat that suited my needs perfectly. The key is simply to drive and ski both, and let nature take its course.

I have two kids that are tournament slalom skiers, one that is a wakeboarder. We ran a 99 Sport for the last 4 years. First I believe you have the bar correct, the 1998 through 2002 Air / Sport is the best cross over boat that leans toward Slalom skiing. You have to make a decision - you want a cross over that leans toward Slalom or one that leans toward Wakeboarding. My oldest daughter was an instructor / slalom skier for 3 years at Coble (all Mastercraft, 197/214/209...). If you want a cross over that has "more high end slalom", the 214 V will not achieve that goal. Great boat, but not for your goal of " high end slalom". The 99 Sport you sold - that is the bar. Always a trade-off. We sold our Sport and purchased a 196 to focus on pure slalom. I would invest in your 216, be happy, put the savings in a college account - ha !!
