Does anyone know if the standard engine in the Nautique 206 is sufficient. I am being told by a dealer if I buy a boat with a 5.0 L engine that I will have difficulty selling the boat in the future.

You might think it has enough power, but that is the first thing that would turn me away if I were looking.2002 Air Nautique GT-40

A buddy of mine owns a 97 SNOB with the 275HP and it does just fine. However, he said he got a steal on the boat when he bought it new because nobody else would buy it with the 275 motor. Also, his boat is 2300 or so lbs and my 206 is 2,800lbs. Sounds like the dealer is shooting you straight, especially in a 206.

Does it have enough power yes.
Is he right that there is a perception that it is not enough power and will be less desirable in the used market - yes.

I would go with the larger engine. I do think the 275 HP would be plenty of power especially if best proped for what your doing with the boat.
I would shoot for the larger 5.7 Engine though for later on resale even if its several years down the road.2010 Super Air 230

PCM 5.0 versus 5.7
I have a 206 and chose the 5.7 for the very reasons that the guys have been saying, that the bigger motor will give you a better resale. I am not unhappy in the least with the 343 HP motor and I have to believe that the 275 HP has got to be a big step down to 275 HP.

I sure wish the motor manufacturers would post the torque curves. Peak HP numbers are typically in the 4500-5000rpm range and they don't tell you enough about how the motor will push the boat through the water. The 5.7 Excal probably has a great deal more torque throughout the midrange from 2500-4000rpm. This makes the motor a good choice for almost any boat. I suspect the reason they do not post the torque curves is that the ZR6 is likely to have a nearly identical torque curve in the 2500-4000rpm range thus making it nearly impossible to justify the motor upgrade to the educated buyer.

MikeSki I have to agree with Ice. There are several other reasons to own the 6L. I can tell a big hole shot difference in the 230's between the 5.7 and the 6L. Closed cooling is nice in some regions.
Sorry to be off topic, but HP Vs. Torque Vs. Price on the 5.7 and 6L could be a 100 + repiles post. Dare ya to start!!!!!!!!
HAHA
As for the 275 vs. 330 motors. I'd ask what you will be doing with the boat. If you are open water Slalom skiing 275 great. If you are going to ski the course anything more then 22off, might consider. When I sold Nautiques, I pulled a whole competition with a 2000 Ski and it wasn't until the end of the day that some realized the motor in the boat. And they only realized when I pulled the drain plug.
I agree with the resale comments. Human nature is perception. If you are buying the boat right who cares, if the motor will do all you need it to like I said above.

I would spend the extra $ on the 5.7. I love mine, but with that said I also have a ton of ballast for surfing and when there's a bunch of people on board I wish I had the 6.0. One Saturday after a fishing trip, we were at the car wash. In the stall next door, there was a man washing a brand new shallow water boat with a HUGE outboard Yamaha. I don't remember the size, but it was BIG, maybe the BIGGEST they made at the time.
I asked him if his new boat had enough horsepower. His response was:
"Son, I've been under powered and poor my entire life....
Now, ....I'm just poor."
