Has any one tried to water ski with the ski platform off. I just took it off for the first time I could not belived how much it weights. I put it on a bathroom scale and it was 94 pounds. I wounder how much that would affect the ski weight?

I don't know, but I would suspect you would have a lot of bow rise upon take off. That platform surface kicks water down to lift the stern up and keep the bow down.
I would have guessed it to be more than 94 lbs...it is not teak right? I haven't had my 206 platform off but i pulled the pins and lifted and it seamed heavier than that.

I take mine off every time to fit in the garage. I believe the 94 lbs. I do believe I read somewhere NOT to run without the platform. Think it has something to do with exhaust. But you do have an interesting theory. I've been told to put 100 lbs in the ski locker to improve the ski wake, but haven't tried it yet. This might do the same type of thing.
I'd hate to try to get back in the boat, though.

The 211 platform is high off the water it doesn't even touch the water once the boat is going over 7 or 8mph. When I do my slide off surf start I need to get into the water before the boat gets up to speed. I don't see how it could affect the ability to plane off. I wouldn't be surprised if it planed off quicker due to the lighter load. Now that you guys are talking about this I am wondering if I could build a lightweight platform out of another material? Maybe make one out of 1" flooring and cut lots of slots out of it, cover it in line-a-bed material.
I keep 3 or 4 forty pound pop bags in my boat at all times. When it is time for skiing, they go all the way forward in the bow. When surfing they go all the way to the back of the rear locker on the low side.Last edited by Mikeski; 03-23-2010, 01:19 AM.
