    New School Slalom

For those of you still skiing, are you using the new school technique? I am still getting it all dialed in but I think this is the way to go. When I do it right, it is so easy. Just curious what everyone elses thoughts are.

Ski, explain to me the new school technique. Does it still involve keeping your hips up or are you more compressed. Since I can't seem to master the old school method, I'm open to anything.

I wouldn't say that I have anything mastered either! There are a handful of components but some of the big ones are alot of counter rotation in the turn and this philosophy of "dropping your hip in" at the end of the turn. What I have seen and have been taught is to not use my arms at all when I edge out for the gates. There is an article at skitek.net about the gates. It lays the details out real well. Counter rotation is a big part in the turns because it allows you to let the ski finish the turn a lot better allow you to come on the backside of the bouy with a lot tighter line. If you want to see new school in action, I would say that you should go to www.skitek.net and watch some of the videos over there. Chris Rossi and the other skiers on that site ski new school really well. You can also check out terrywinter.com and marcusbrown.net They all have tips about it. About all I can do over the internet is try to help cure little problems for you. If you have specific problems, I can try to help you. Sorry I can't explain the philosophy as well here but as you can see from some of my other posts, there are a lot of things that I can't explain well with the keyboard!
