Boating insurance...any suggestions ???

Does anyone have any insight or suggestions in regards to boating insurance ?

deductibles
uninsured boaters
emergency services (towing)
protection
personal effects

I am looling at boat insurance with Westmar Marine Insurance.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Check out Ski Safe, that's who mine's with and they were a lot cheaper than anyone else I could find.

I've had Westmar since 99' and have been happy with them. However, I never had a claim to really evaluate the portion of their service that really counts. The deductible was relatively high with Westmar but coverage was extensive. I'm switching boats right now and am looking around as well. Please post or PM me if you find a better value with another carrier. I'd be interested to hear.

After being with ski-safe for several years I switched to voyagermarine.com. I saved $110.00 per year by switching.

I would say skisafe. Not only do they have good prices but they are also good about handling any claims.

My only concern about SkiSafe is that they do not allow hydrofoilers behind boats that they insure.

Ive been w/ WESTMAR for over 8 years, i would reccommend them. Everyyear they reduced my premiem... until I wrecked my 93 SN May 2004. They were great, they totalled the boat and payed me off in about 3 weeks time. I went and bought another (95 SN) and they insured me again without a huge increase in the premium.

We have our boat insurance through BoatUS, they had the best prices. I don't know much about it because I don't handle that kind of stuff, my parents do. But I haven't heard anything bad about them.

And that's enough to make me mad! They dropped my premium after the first year but haven't touched it since (5 renewals total). I' m calling them tomorrow!

You really think they are gonna lower your prem. with a 05 sv211TE w/ ZR6? get out the checkbook my friend, your gonna need it...ouch.

Your right. I was hoping that coming from my current boat to the SV211 (arrivies this coming January) that I'd get a break as my last boat was a performance jet boat. However, the delta in $$$ isn't going to help matters any...

Anyway, it's well worth the money to enjoy such a boat and the riding that goes along with it.

I just switched from Ski Safe to Voyager. Ski Safe has a "named storm" exclusion in their policy which basically eliminates the insurance during a hurricane. That exclusion doesn't work when you live in Florida.....

The Voyager policy was about the same in price, didn't have the named storm exclusion and didn't have the lay up period I had with Ski Safe....

I received a quote from them at $733 a year. That is for full coverage, my ded is 1% of my value. They said there is no depreciation with them. 300,000 liability, and towing on land and water. I think this quote seems good at 65 a month for a 55k boat.

timber thanks for the comeback....i agree, not to bad of deal for what you get.

went with western marine...cost was $760 a year for $500k ( had to up it for my umbrella) and $1k towing and $2k personal..

i found out they will also knock 5% off for boating courses.
