Gotta agree with Cattwake on this one. The FCT-3 is by far the most stable tower I have owned. My FCT-1 creaked with the 485's on it too. I ended up installing plastic discs in the connection points to quiet it down. The FCT-3 is super stable.

maybe i am just lucky w/ my tower. i did notice on my both my 220 and my 236 that the tighter i turned the knobs, it would induce some squeaking.

i guess its actually pretty silly trying to make my point, you cant even spec a 230 w/ the old tower any more can you?

as for the fct4...cant wait to see the review.

on a side note. i always thought it was silly that tige was constantly changing their towers a few years ago. i understand having options and improving designs, but the lack of continuity (starting in 2006) w/ towers and tower designs kind of underminds the whole boat as a package. it almost feels as if they keep failing to come to market w/ a well thought out, long term design that works. i know perception isnt always reality, but it makes you wonder why certain designs were shelved so quickly.

I found another thread on here that talks about this topic. The thread contains conflicting information about 1) how easy it is to take the Z5 off the tower 2) whether or not you can fold down the FCT3 with it connected or partially connected. I don't like the Tower Bimini design that puts the top over the top of the tower. It is the one my dealer is recommending.

If anyone has pictures of the Z5 being taken off the FCT3 or the tower folded down with the Z5 still connected, I would appreciate you posting them.

I still wonder about other under tower Bimini options.

Yes you can fold the fct 3 with the z5 but it does not fold to its complete lowest level. I take off and and install by myself all the time, Wash off the pollen, get more sun when the the temperature is below 70 etc. Every time I go out in the boat I find something on the fct 3 that makes me glad I went this tower. I compare it to a old mechanical rag top {fct1] to a new folding hard top [fct3].

It is super easy to remove a z5 from an fct3. It's literally 4 push pins.
