    Starbrite

I just finished cleaning all my vinyl with Simple Green and would like to use a protectant now that its all nice and clean. The salesman at west marine recommended Starbrite, a combo restoration/ protectant product. Anybody used this? I have heard great reviews about 303, but this product promises to also have some cleaning and said restorative properties.

    Thanks!

Now I've just got to finish the vinyl, wax, buff and oil the platform!

I would not use simple green on your vinyl. I know that you already have, but I would not do it again. That stuff is pretty strong. Hopefully it was highly diluted when you used it. If your vinyl is now clean, 303 should be all you need. If you want to use a conditioner, Mequires or Malco are both highly recommended (followed by 303). I use Mequires as a cleaner on mine, mostly because Malco is harder to find. I'm not familiar with this particular starbrite product.

I'm not familiar with Starbrite for vinyl care, but I do use 303. Many people swear by it and I feel it’s the best protectant available. My only complaint is that 303 leaves a slick finish like Armor All. I have also used the Babe's Seat Saver and may go back because it does not leave a greasy finish. I think the Condition Sauce from Boat Bling would also be worth a try. Just make sure whatever you use is silicone free.

BTW, I have been told the Simple Green is not good to use. I did some research and ended up trying Exquisite this winter for a deep clean. I was happy with the results. Boat Bling and Babes also make a vinyl cleaner.

I've never used the marine simple green but normal stuff is basically a degreaser, it will deteriorate the vinyl over time.
Sold my boat to buy a house, the house is much less fun.

i use marine simple green on my vinyl, but starbrite mildew is better. if the interior is not too bad i just use plane old marine vinyl cleaner. and 303 is the best protection you can use hands down.

so my vinyl will deteriorate as a result of having used it? or are you saying if I continue to use it it will deteriorate?

I think I've got the plain starbrite... my interior is in good shape it was just a bit dirty, no mildew or anything... pretty dry here in CA

I only know what I have read on the net. Most posts I have read said Simple Green is too harsh. It can damage the vinyl and any stitching over time. I just feel it would be better to use something for boat vinyl than an all purpose cleaner.
