Where are you guys getting lead for your boats?

i keep reading about people putting lead in their boats for ballast... is there a specific place you can get it?

Find a friend who works in a nuclear power plant. That's what I did.

become a country boy and get some tractor weights. they work great and are easy to move

Go to tire shops. Ask for their old wheel weights. I filled two 2.5lb gas jugs with them. Each jug weighs apx 80lbs. Free!

I got old wheel weights from a local tire place for some of my weight, but I found most of the lead I used at a metal recycling place. They had some lead bars and lead shot that I melted down and made bricks out of.

I bought weights that are used for weight lifting at Dick's sporting goods. When I bought mine it was .50 cents a pound. I bought some 25lb and 50lb weights then had some of it rhino lined. I hdont even usde it anymore because I have plumbed in the ballast I need.

Craigslist, free weights.

no-one likes to move/transport an old set of free weights, very easy to bargain with someone if they don't want to move 600 lbs of lead!

I got 550 lbs for 10cents/lb.....tie a few of em together with rope or throw em in a few different duffle bags. Instant fine tuneable surf ballast
