A couple of questions about a GT 40 motor.

I bought a 2000 Air Nautique off Ebay thta had a blown motor. My question is are the GT 40 motors in Nautiques the same as the mustang motor? I can rebuild motor no problem but I am looking for a source to buy big parts like heads, pistons, gaskets.

Is there any advantage to adding horse power to these motors like performance heads. intake, cam, ect?

The GT40 engine is the same the 93-95 Ford Lightning pickup. Mustang engines were 5.0 302's. You can still find Lightning short blocks if you look hard enough.

Wrong, the orginal GT-40 heads are off of a 302 block and not the 351 block and prior to that the heads where GT-40-p and came on several trucks before it was ever used on the Lighting in a 351W application.

So if I am looking for a complete long block I am looking for a 302 or 351?

The "GT-40" engine found in Nautiques (see picture) is a multiport injected 5.8L engine. CC has also put 5.0L engines in their late model boats in the last 10 years, but I'm not sure if they ever used 5.0L Fords. The ones I have seen have all been 5.0L Chevys.

Will any year 351 long block work? I found some remans but there is different models for different years seems to be 74-93 and 94-97 Is it safe to say 94-97 due to the fact the boat is a 2000?

I think CC used the GT-40 from about 95--2002. The block is a 351W. I'll let someone more knowledgeable than me tell you what the difference is between that and a high output 351W with GT-40 heads used in the early 90's (and, possibly, later I think). I know you have a different intake manifold. Obviously, the fuel delivery is specific to the motor, the fuel control cell, etc., but I'm not sure what you have that works and what you need.

What parts of your current GT-40 are salvageable?

I'm just keeping the thread alive until the smart people get here.

                    Thanks

not much is salvageable, heads are cracked, one piston has a hole in it, crank is probally toast, cyliders are rusted.

I think I need a 351 ho just want to be sure before I buy it.

You will want to salvage the High pressure fuel pump and cylinder (I believe CC calls it the FCC) from you GT-40 also the ECM. I believe is different . Also the starter and Alternator are marine which means they are made not to spark and ignite fumes in the bilge. You should be able to get away with a mutliport 351 long block and add the rest of the pieces from your old motor.

I was thinking they were reverse rotation, and have no idea how that would affect buying a standard car block. You might check with Jasper marine engines for major pieces, White Lake or even Ski Dim. I'm no gear head, but I do know my experience with 3 gt-40s has been great they pull like a freight train and are very dependable.

Did you buy the boat to flip it? Hmm maybe not a good boat term....how about re-sale it?

I have everything for the motor(fuel injection, alt, water pump, manifolds everything) just the motor is junk. Reverse rotation???? I know what it means From what I remember building motors all that different is the distributor gear and the rear main seal. I hope it not reverse rotation I hate setting up the firing order.

No I bought the boat to keep it I sold my 206 to pay off our cars this year when the wife lost her job

GT40Ps were used on explorers post 1998 and came out after the original GT40 head from the 93 cobra/93 Lightning. 95-97.5 explorers used the same GT40 heads from the Cobra/Lightning and PCM GT40.
