    Urgent Help - Canada

I have a person looking to purchase my Nautique and move it from PA to Canada. Can anyone tell me the process of doing this. He realizes he will have to pay the 13% sales tax in Ontario. Will there be a border tax? Would he have to pay a PA state sales tax? Any idea on cost associated?

We sold our boat to a couple guys from canada

The guys were from Quebec not Ontario but It should be the same except for the tax rate which I believe is a little higher in Quebec. They will have to pay the tax right at the border when they bring it through.I drove our boat thru the border for the guys and I had to wait well they paid the taxes I believe there was also some other fee's they had to pay as well as the taxes on the trailer.Just make sure they have a bill of sale and copy of registrations. They even fudged on the price quit a bit to save on the taxes. We had no problems whats so ever. You should not have to pay any sales tax in Penn,Since it's a private sale the state will not even know about it unless you tell them and even if you did the boat was not sold to some living in Penn. You can go on the Canadian customs website or call I am sure to find costs associated with bring a boat across the border.hope this helps.nautiques are quite a bit more in Canada and the exchange rate is great right now so it's a great place to sell your boat.Good Luck.

I sold my MC to a guy from Canada. I met him in St. Louis (about half way between). We had a purchase agreement and I had payment in full before I left the driveway. I gave him bills of sale for boat and trailer. If I recall, he had to pay tax at the border. I did not charge him sales tax for Texas. I know of some people who will not fill out the price on a bill of sale and assume what the seller reports as the price is on his conscience. I know my copy of the bill of sale is accurate as to the price he paid me.

      YMMV

WE did basically the same thing as tx skier.I had my original bill of sale with the correct price on it and I brough the guys who bought it a blank copy of the bill of sale and let them mess with it for the border that way I was not involved. It can definitely help with the sale if you can offer them this option I know the guys that bought our boat could not afford the full amount of the taxes so the needed to adjust the price on the Bill.
