Wooden Correct Craft Cabin Cruisers And Yachts

For the past few years I have been keeping my eyes open for the old wooden cabin cruisers and yachts that Correct Craft used to build back in the fifties. They seem to be almost non-existant these days. What happened to these boats? How come you never see any for sale or even hear about them being around anymore? These look like awesome boats, and I'd like to check one out in person.

Are you sure that's Correct Craft and not Chris Craft? It looks like a Constellation to me. There are lots of those around, but they are either restored and astronomically priced or the need restored and are super expensive restorations.

Funny, just saw an add on ebay for a advertisement for one of those boats. I would guess there are very few survivors for those types of boats. I would also think the production on those would've been pretty small when compared to the "runabouts".

Here's another one that I found. This one is for sale in NY for $12,500. It is a 1956 44' cruiser. Interesting boat.

Thanks to Jeff for starting this thread… I often wondered what happened to these old boats too.

Unfortunately, I’d bet most of these are in “bone yards” somewhere.

I know Correct Craft had financial troubles for many years. I wonder if that could have been a factor in the decision to cancel their line of cruisers.

I also wonder if CC had continued to build cruisers, what they would look like today…

If they did still make them, I think they’d definitely give Sea Ray and Chris Craft a run for their money!

Your mentioning this led me to go to boattraderonline and search for Connies in my area. The went from 12,000 to 500,000 depending on size and of course condition. Wood boats are a lot of work from what I hear, so I have to beleive many of them fell into disrepair and were scrapped. They do have a very high cool factor!

I'm sure they are a ton of work, and you're probably right about why there are so few around. My grandfather had a 1967 30' wooden Trojan cabin cruiser. That boat was very cool. I know he worked hard to keep it in good shape. One night it broke free from the dock in a bad storm. Nobody could find the boat for a few days. When they finally found it, it had sustained so much damage that they ended up getting rid of it. It is too bad, because I would like to think that sooner or later that boat might have been mine.

I saw one on the web when I was looking for an old wood cruiser.There are few out there and I really wanted one but the cost of the transport and boat put it out of my price range. I ended up with a 1968 43' Chris Craft Corinthian with twin 427 Ford side oilers. It has some rotted spots in the deck and the interior needs to be re-done but the framing and hull is in fine shape. I am sure I will have my bad luck stories to post after I get her restored this winter and may even regret buying it! However, I am looking forward to spending the weekends towing my Sport Nautique to whatever ski destination looks good and spending a lot of fun times with my family. I have two young boys and I think they are more excited than me to start the restoration process. The plan is to have heer back in the water by June,2005 and spend a lot of time finding the good ski spots!!
