Don, The Delphi designed MEFI-4 and MEFI-5 fuel injection system that pcm(and almost every marinizer) uses has a canbus serial interface on it. This is how a limited gets it's information for the gauges(the gateway plugs into the can interface), as well as how the DBW boats have throttle control. The ZO plugs into the canbus as just another device on the bus and is allowed the ability to provide throttle instruction to the ECU. In the case of boat manufacturers that offer ZO, they use a version of the MEFI ecm with software done by eControls, the sister company of ZO.

I realize I’m 9 years late to this issue but It looks like you guys are ahead of this problem.

Can someone dive a little deeper into this process for me? 2gofaster definitely gave me better insight above but I want to ensure I’m tracking.

Is the software patch something I can download from ZO website and as long I have the cable I can install at the head unit in the dash?

If this cable is still floating around I would love to get in the mix and save $220.

I have the cable. The software is downloaded to your laptop from the ZO website. The cable is connected to the "Diagnostic" cable on the engine (remove engine cover to locate it). Many have accomplished this task.

Anyone still have a cable for updates? My round puck died and my trailer is in another state for storage. I’d prefer to buy the new antennae but would need to update my system. Any help with a loaner cable or rental would be much appreciated.
          Thanks!
          Ben

I still have the update cable. You will need the R2 Antenna + wiring harness. PM me if you decide to update.
