Brand New SANTE 210, Engine Problems on the 1st day out

After getting the rudder port recall done last week, I was finally able to get the boat out this weekend. The boat test with the dealer went great and we ran it for 3 hours on Friday night with no problems. This morning we went out again and the problems started fast acceleration causes a lot of grey smoke and then after 20 seconds or so at 4000+rpms, the engine reduces the rpms to idle. I could not get it over about 5mph without it stalling out. We took it to the mechanic and he checked a few things and noticed the water intake valve was pretty loose and thought that it was drawing in air and causing overheating. However the temp gauge never got over 175. He tightened it back up, ran it at the shop and thought it was fixed. We went back out and the same things happened. Any ideas?

The grey smoke would be a indication the engine is running too rich (too much fuel) and my guess would be you should have gotten a check engine light. It probably went into "limp home mode" which is why it probably wouldn't go over 5 mph. If it sent a fault code to the computer the mechanic should be able to read it a get a good idea for your problem.

Sorry you haven't had good luck so far with your boat but that's sometimes what happens with buying new. Once all the bugs get fixed you will be very happy with your purchase.

I'm sure it will get fixed, I just hope it doesn't take too long. The boat is 7 hours from the dealer, which is a problem. But they do contract work to the local repair facility and that's where it is right now. I did not get a check engine light or any fault codes when I ran the diagnostic tool in the LINC system. The repair guy also hooked it up to the computer and did not get any fault codes. I chose Nautique and this dealer for its features, reputation and value. How they handle this for me will let me know if I made the right choice. When the boat was working for the first 3 hours. I sure loved it.

My first guess would be a crank position sensor that's faulty. Not a big deal(although it is new)and sometimes that sort of thing happens. I'm sure they'll get you fixed right up. It could also be something as simple as the ecm calibration being corrupted and just needing a reflash.

Too bad you are having this issue. Correct Craft makes a very high quality product (I have owned their boats for over 20 years). It sounds as if this just unfortunate circumstance that rarely happens.

Good luck, I am confident they will make it right.

We've had issues with our brand new 09 216V too. On our intro drive at higher speeds it started spuddering then eventually gave out and we had to get towed back. They diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump and changed it along with the water/fuel sperator, changed the gas in the tank to new gas and said it was all clear.

We were on it for about an hour Saturday and after about 5 minutes at a steady 22 mph it started missing out again, same issue. This time it would hold steady at about 10 mph but anything more than that it was worthless. On top of that, one dead battery that is not getting charged when running the boat and one tower speaker that is playing at about 1/10th the level it should be. Had to pull it out and haul it back to the dealer and drop it off this morning, very disappointing.

I hope this is not an ongoing issue, we bought this boat brand new hoping to avoid these issues.

                  I know it sucks!!!!!
Ive owned several boats by all different brands - & every single one of them had to have something fixed, tweaked, changed, worked on, etc.... in the first 20hrs. - sometimes longer.
Its just part it. Once you get everything working correctly, then you should be trouble free.

Good luck - stay patient & positive youll be good in no time.

The local guy in the town where we boat was unable to fix it. I had to trailer it back home and the dealer did come and pick it up. They've told me its been repaired and tested on the lake and is running great, but I have not tried it yet. It was a loose distributor that was causing timing problems. There was also a kink in the fuel line and the water intake hose was loose, all seem to point to some quality control issues. I've had the rudder recall completed, a small trailer problem that should have been caught prior to delivery and this big repair all in the first 5 hours on the boat. I've basically spent 3 weekends hauling it around its been trailered for 16 unnecessary hours. Is it too much to expect some kind of compensation from Nautique or the dealer? I would hope this is not normal for a new boat and just some bad luck. The dealer has been very good and timely on the repairs and maybe that's all I should expect. Has anyone experienced this type of thing in the past?

I think you just got a bit of bad luck. Anything mechanical, built by anybody - is subject to having some sort of problem right off the bat - but your experience is def. the rarity from what I have heard and experienced. Hopefully your dealer is doing a good job. Hopefully they have it right, and now yo can get to enjoying your summer!

Bought an 09 210 last fall. First time out had severe engine surging problems when at speed for a bit. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the low pressure fuel pump. Ran it a couple of times and it ran fine. First time out this year in April, same issue. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the low pressure fuel pump. They ran it and still had issues with it. They replaced the high pressure fuel pump as well. Since then, everything has ran very well. So on one hand it sucked to have to go through that, but on the other hand, I'm glad I had a great dealer that fixed the problem quickly each time. They checked the fuel tank for debris and it checked out clean. Assuming it was just bad luck or a faulty run of pumps. I'd take it to the dealer to have them check it out. My problem was only a problem when running at speed for some time. They said that the low pressure pump had a slow loss of pressure, so at speed over time it was starving the high pressure pump. And the second go around, it starved it enough to burn up the high pressure pump. Just my 2 cents.

Oh the dealer has it now....of course no time to get to it and check it on a busy holiday weekend....ruined my Memorial Day weekend with family in town....and puts a black eye on Nautique when a 1 day old boat cant make it back to the dock without shutting off multiple times.....
