200 submarine issue

Hello!
We just put a 200 open bow in the lake. Bought it with 250 hours on it from a ski group in Florida. We're using it as a family boat. Have experienced slalom and barefoot skiers, some novice wakeboarders and the little tube kids. Had immediate issues with water coming in across the bow. The bow is low to the water and catches rollers almost too easily when traveling at a slow speed. At one point, I was trying to pick up a kid in the water, moving at maybe 5 mph, and caught another boat's wake. The bow flooded and water washed into the middle of the boat, causing my sandals to float under the driver's seat.
Is anyone else experiencing this with a 200? Should I be concerned? Take it to the factory?

These boats ride very low in the water and do not like rough water, not the best boat for big rollors, and or huge lakes.. Try keeping the front in up with the throttle when crossing them at slow speeds.

It's simply the nature of an open bow tournament boat. Every brand's version will have the same issue. Just be vigilant of the rollers in front of you and goose the throttle a touch to lift the bow over them. Even the close bow versions can take a roller up over the windshield. I did it to ours withing 100 yards of leaving the dock the first time we had it out! It was a rough day but I wanted to use the new toy.

Most times it can be avoided, as mentioned by others, but using just enough power to lift the nose when approaching wakes. Other times, like when you have a skier near the rope, you just have to take it.

I look at it as a side effect of the wonderful visibility you have while driving.

Place the bow at 30-45 degrees to the rollers and you'll almost never sink the bow on one of these boats. If you have it 90 degrees to the roller, your bilge pump is going to get a workout. LOL

submarine update

we kept a close eye on the boat today. the rope eye just under the bow light is often submerged by 2-3 inches... so the bow light itself is riding less than 6 inches off the water. this just doesn't seem right. the rope eye shouldn't be submerged, right?

Nope, that's about right. The rope eye on my 196 is like that too when it's properly weighted.

I guess it depends on how much weight you had in the boat. I don't know the measurements, but when there is no one in the bow of mine the eye is completely out of the water at rest.

How many people were in the boat? Where were they sitting?

Think like your driving a surf board, and try to almost parrallel the waves. You can be a complete stop and this will work, and it will also work while under way.

If your taking on your own rollers when picking up a fallen rider then ease off the gas, let the boat settle and then turn slightly away from the way your going to turn, then turn back the direction of your fallen rider and you should be able to idle back without having any issues from rollers.

In the end, it will take experience, and I might suggest you not let anyone ride up there for a while till you get a handle on your new 200. BTW if you want to bring it up to East TN, I'll gladly show you how to keep water out of the bow for a couple of pulls.
