    Tower for an '86 2001...collapsable a must.

I started looking at towers and am wondering what would be a good tower for a 1986 SN 2001. It must be collapsible so I can fit it through my garage door. I think I'm most interested in the MonsterTower MT2. I like the look, it's not too expensive, and it collapses. I've seen others that look amazing but are insanely priced. Anyone have any experience with MonsterTowers on a closed-bow mid-80s 2001? Any other towers under $1500 that will install on an '86 without major modification?

Monster is great to deal with, I'm on my 2nd tower on my 2nd boat and it was a toss up between a Titan and the M2, since I couldn't have an Titan 3 I went with the M2. The only issues that I have had is that the Monster needs to have everything torqued ever so often, and I had to make a bimini myself because of the hydrofoils on the pivoting racks.

Looks good TX, and love the Air Chairs. I got a chance to try one of those way back in the mid-late 90s. Heck of a lot of fun.

What I'm going to do is take measurements and go from there. Gotta make sure that I can get it in the garage even when it's collapsed. I'll see which ones fit my constraints.

The new demensions flight control tower is by far the best tower and they make one custom for 82-86. I am currently in the market for a 2001 and the FCT is the tower I will be getting. I emailed new demensions last week about the towers and here is the conversation:

Me - "Hey I was wondering if you guys sold a tower that fits an 82-89 ski nautique 2001. If so, how much does cost and how hard is it to install?"

New Demensions - "We have the 82-86 if you are somewhat mechanically inclined the installation is not bad.The tower is $1995 plus shipping.
          Thanks,
          Chad"

Me- "Any idea how much shipping would be to 38672?"

New Demensions - "Shipping is $200"

Me- "Is there any particular reason it wont fit the 87-89 nautiques? I am currently shopping for a nautique 2001 and I love the 88 and 89's compared to the pre 88's. Also, where are you guys located?"

I am still waiting to here back about the 87+ 2001's and their location.

There are several pics of 2001's with these towers but here is a listing of a boat I wanted a while back that had one installed. If I am not mistaken, I believe they used this guy's boat as their template for the towers: http://www.correctcraftfan.com/diari...ls.asp?ID=4881

          I hope this helps.

I have a 83 SN 2001 and Iam also thinking about a tower. I have looked since last year and New Dimension seems to be a good one but pricey but the bimini they sell for it is pretty nice. I also like the look of the MT2 tower. Did your tsunami tower fold at all? Bimmerboyz..........thats a nice looking tower and Nautique!

i went with the titan tower. was 1250 shipped from wakeside. i needed a folding tower since the boat stays on a hoist with a canopy. tower collapses with the pull of 1 pin and unscrewing one bolt (has hand grip so no tools required). tower folds down to only stick up about 6 inches above the windshield. just give the exact dimension you want and titan will make it for you. the hardest part was clearing room for the backing plates in the gunwhale. It is very solid and i couldnt have asked for anything better. my vote goes for the titan.

It might be the air scoops under the windshield on 87-89's that make mounting different, and therefore a no fit.

                            Cover with Tower

What options do folks use for a cover with any of these particular towers? Do you have to have a custom cover made?

I have a MT1 tower on my 90 Sport and I can't say enough good things about it or the company. I have broke a few bolts and other things (usually all my error and not the tower) and Monster Tower always has parts sent out next day and at no cost to me. I too love the MT2 towers look, if they made it when I was in the market I would have gone with it for sure. Looks very sleek, very similar to my buddy's supra tower which has a very cool XTP tower on it. It's surprising how similar they look, you would almost think its the same company, lol.

As far as the cover issue is concerned the main question is are you going to be covering it with the tower up or down? I used to cover mine with the tower down and I was able to use my existing cover. It actually helped keep the cover propped up.

I now store my boat outside and it is best to keep the tower up. My old cover finally ripped and I bought a universal cover made for my size boat with a tower. It is so-so. Biggest complaint is the actual cover size and not how it fits around the tower. My thought for a solution is getting my old cover tailored and making small slits near the tower leg bases and seeing how that works. Similar to the old 210 cover.
