    99 pro air twc??

    Hi all,
just found your site and wanted to get the guys who know best about these boats to give some feedback on the 1999 Pro air (dd).

We/I like to slalom, but I'm no tourney skier, enjoy making hard turns and seeing how close I can get my arm to the water, and acclerating hard through the wake to do it over again! Just learning to wakeboard, and I think I'll have fun playing with that as well.

We're looking for a "cross" boat that will be fun to ski behind, teach newbies to ski/board, drag a tube occasionally, etc..How is the slalom wake behind a 99 pro air with the TWC hull? Is it more of a wake dedicated boat? Is the stock ballast enough to make a good wake for an advanced boarder?

    thanks
    Jack

    RE: 99 pro air twc??

    Jack,

The 99 Pro Air should be a good "cross" boat for you. The wake is adequate for slalom. As for wakeboarding, the wake is OK with stock ballast. We add an additional 1050lbs. to the stock ballast which is 400lbs and the wake is awesome. I put 300lbs in the back locker, 500lbs in the ski locker and 250lbs up front. We usaually only have 3 people in the boat. With more people, the wake gets taller. All in all, I think the boat is great. I love the way it drives and the GT-40 motor is awesome. It has a ton of torque. Even with alot of ballast and people, the boat planes quickly. If you ski and wakeboard, I think the Pro Air would be a good boat. I don't ski at all and will probably switch to a SANTE in the future, which is a dedicated wakeboard boat. Let me know if you have any more questions. Hope this helps!

    Matt

      Ive got a 01 PAN,
I ski about like you, The twc is a little larger than the ski but not bad...
all some people and fill the tanks and we are having fun learning to wake board....
I really like the center engine for mtc and simple drive line.....
its a great set up for the jump seat, kinda spreads everybody out for some elbow room...
a couple of observations.... all those strakes and vent get it going on down there and the factory pitot tubes are useless, speedo fluxes too much... a ppwbp took care of that.... NOTE if you add the pp contact pp for a pix on the exact location center line of the boat for best results
the insturction dont cover the twc hull and you wont end up with an extra like me.......
this boat can be pretty wet in ruff water.... spray over the bow and pretty easy to dunk the nose if you dont throttle up when passing thru your own wake for a pick up... 1400/1500 rpms especally with pax in the bow area and full ballast...
I like mine and hope to keep it for a long time...

I am also the owner of a 99 pro air nautique. I am probably 60/40 wakeboard/slalom ski. As others have said the pro-air is a nice crossover boat. Add some extra ballast and the wakeboard wake is great or strap on the slalom and go for a few runs.

However, if you are looking for more slalom versitility this boat is not meant to run the course. I am a pretty aggressive slalom skier and now gettting into the course and would NOT want to run the course behind our proair. I have heard that the newer air nautiques throw a better slalom wake than the pro-airs but have never skied behind one so this may not be true. It is really a trade off with the pro-air you will get a slightly better wakeboard wake. In my opinion it is a peakier wake and responds better when extra ballast is added.

All this being said I absolutley love our pro air and would probably not trade it for a newer one. We got an amazing deal on a used one last spring and 99 was the last year they used the ORIGIONAL AIR GRAPHICS, which are my favorate over the years.

I would suggest sking/boarding behind a proair and some of the newer airs and make the decision for yourself. I would definatly rule out a Vdrive if you are into slalom skiing at all

sorry for the long post...hope this was helpful

          Hey guys,
thanks for the feedback, we made the deal for the boat, and I hope to pick it up next week. The one we got has the Python engine (urguahh!) that should be able to pull us around ok.

We can't wait to get it wet!
