    The "gate"

Does anybody know for sure if Correct Craft will be introducing the gate wake control system on the 2005 196.

I see on USAWATERSKI's site that the 196 is an 05 approved towboat configured with the gate system and without the system. What gives?

    RE: The "gate"

99.9% sure that the gate will not be offered on the 2005 boats. If you are holding out on your order, don't stick around waiting for it.

Thanks. From what I understand of the "gate" it would require a change in the mold to remove the current lip. Don't see how it would work offering two vairations of the same hull. Order has been placed, waiting for spring.

I find it interesting that Correct Craft had the 196 tested with and without the gate. They didn't test the 206 with the gate so this may have been done as research. If it was put into production the drain plug in the center of the transom would also need to be moved or eliminated like the other brands have done.

          George:
my 02 does not have a drain in the center of the transom and neither did the 04 (196) our club leased for the summer.

            Jim,
All open bow direct drives have a drain plug in the battery compartment as well as one on the transom. I don't think the gate is on the 206 for two different reasons. The first is that it is still in testing and two, CC doesn't really push the 206 that hard for tournament boats.
            Just my two cents

I think CC is smart not pushing the 206 too hard for tourneys. (Although I do see them around here and other places.) The reason, in my mind, is that CC wants the 196 to stay alive. Look at Malibu and MC for example. You almost never see a newer closed bow MC or Bu anymore. Even the Bu LX walkover has been basically mothballed due to the success of the RLXI walkthrough. CC is really the only company that still has a viable closed bow.

The simple fact is that CC dominates the closed bow market so why give it up? If someone wants an open bow, the 206 is a perfect fit from CC. You have choices. Personally, I have no interest in an open bow for my own personal use. I personally, would only buy it if I had a family and for possible resale.
