do I have to somehow close off the standard water intake so the impeller will pull in water and not air (when hooking up hose with bucket of water to test boat out on trailer)?

I pull the hose off the intake side of the water strainer and put a hose on the barb. The other end of the hose goes into a large 20 gallon tub that is placed under the exhaust of the boat. The engine is then started, and the water is recirculated helping to warm the engine up and open the termostat. To winterize I pull the hose from the large tub and put it in a 5 gallon bucket with antifreze. Once I see antifreeze coming out of the exhaust I kill the engine.
If I was jus flushing I would warm the engine up then use clear water in a bucket instead of the antifreeze.

Remove the hose at the pickup which comes through the hull. Put the hose in a 5 gallon bucket. Insert a garden hose into the bucket and turn it on. Make sure there is enough water flow to keep up with the engines draw of water. I'm sure you realize water will flow out through the exhausts, so you don't want to do this in the garage unless you have a big drain in the garage floor.

What boat do you have? With a vdrive I find it easier to pull of the hose from the input side of the raw water strainer and attach a 6' section of clear tubing ( bought at home depot) and run the other end into a 5 gallon bucket, you will need to keep a hose feeding the bucket to maintain the water level in the bucket as it get drawn out pretty quickly. I also put the bucket on the swim platform so the raw water pump doesn't have to work as hard overcoming gravity.Last edited by jmo; 07-17-2010, 09:45 AM.2018 Ski Nautique 200 TE, H6
