Direct Drive Fat Sac Question

I have a 1998 Air Nautique, and have just recently purchased a fat sac. The sac will be placed on the floor between the rear seat, and the engine cover. The sac is weighted at 650 lbs, and some of the weight will be putting stress on the engine compartment housing. Can someone please tell me how strong these housings are, and if I am putting too much stress on the Cover.

I would avoid a lot of pressure on the motor box.
I did try to use a 550 lb fat sack in my Ski Nautique, it was too much weight too far aft.
I have heard you can get better results with two smaller sacks, one on each side of the motor box.

I have two 550lb bags. I put one on both sides of the motor, when i only have maybe 1-3 people on the boat. otherwise I use the stock 400lb ballast.

For surfing (when there is not but 1-3people) I put one of the bags on the back floor area between the seat & motor, but I do not fill the sac up all the way...maybe half full.

Thanks alot. Not too sure what I am going to do, because I had to order the bag from the states ( I live in northern Canada). The engine box looks strong, but I really dont want to take a chance, so maybe ill partially fill it. Thanks!

Direct Drive Fat Sac Question

i have the same size sack for surfing i will off set it to the surf side still between seat and motor. fill it as full as i can to fit in the area but not full so the bag is bulging. when i off set it for surfing i usually pay more attention to the side padding and speaker... motor box has never shown stress as i fill it

I have a 400lb sac between the back seat and motor box. It saves on walking room and storage. I haven't had a problem. I'm thinking about putting a little bit bigger sac there. What sac did you get?

I have a 650 rear seat sac. This sac has a flat rectangular profile, which is ideal for a v-drive with alot of open floor space. This causes a larger portion of the sac to rest upon the engine box, causiing me to concern for its integrity...

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have always had several sacs resting up agains the rear of the engine box and it has never been a problems. It's your boat so far be it form me to tell you no worries but in my experience I sack it out all around the cover and it has not been any big deal.
