    Attention surfers! Possible transmission quirk

    FYI,
Recently experienced a problem with transmission which appears to be related to being heavily weighted for surfing.
While running (2008 SANT 230) belly full, 1100 lbs rear starboard ballast plus 6-8 adults all on starboard; transmission seems to lose pressure and momentarily drop out of gear. At first it seemed we had hit something with the prop however after reoccurring 4-6 times in the same session, I stopped the boat, emptied ballast, verified correct transmission level, test drove boat at various speeds and no problems at any speed. After the same problem came up a few days later under the same surfing conditions, I contacted the dealer who in turn contacted PCM; they advised it may be the extreme starboard listing with bow up at 10 MPH resulting in the transmission pump pickup becoming momentarily dry. Between PCM and the dealer they advised I run 1 pint overfill. I increased my fill level 1 pint over and it has eliminated the problem.

    Hey JayBird,

Thanks for posting this. Had a similar issue on my 2008 236 the other weekend...thought I hit something in the water and was having surging issues with Zero-Off the same way. I'll give this quart over a try.
