    Ruined Rear Seat Back

A botched repair job of a very, very small 3/16th of an inch tear in the rear seat back has turned into a total replacement needed. I won’t vent the details of how horrible a job the vinyl repair person did. At 37 years of age I would have blown a gasket but at 47 I’m just hoping this is the worst thing that happens to me this year.

Anyway, the boat is a 2009 206 TE and I want it right so I’m thinking factory stuff. Do I order the seat cover or the entire seat? Direct from Correct Craft or through a dealer? Thanks!

    I feel your pain.

Two weeks ago I personally (out of stupidity) inflicted a wound to the rear seat on my 206. I didn't puke but wanted to. No tears at this point and I'm thinking with some 3M lotion and sunshine the mark might go away.

My first thought was to find someone local to replace just the one panel in the seat. ...unstitch it and sew a new swatch in. For now, I've stopped worrying about it but still not sleeping at night.

Since yours is so new, email David at White Lake for a CC skin estimate first. If not available, then Christine's.

David will be able to get that part. It might take a little while for CC to make it though.

White Lake got me a new rear seat backrest skin for my '07 196 earlier this year, which should be the same size as yours. It was just over $160 delivered, and I got in under two weeks, and CC had to make it for me. They just need your hull ID# to make the correct one for your boat. It's easy to install, just have your pneumatic stapler ready, as the old hand version won't get through the seat frame. The entire backrest, with frame - plug and play, is around $700.

We have 2007 206 LE and last summer we had a rear seat bottom tear at the pipping line, CC warrented it and sent a new seat base so I drove up to Silver Spray Sports to pick it up and to my suprise after I put on the hadeware and installed it the fitment was just terriable I could put my whole hand in between the base and back, so Silver Spray said bring it back to us and we will use the new skin with my old base then when that happened it must have been pulled to tight because it did not fit again so back to Silver Spray and they took the boat to there interior guy and he built and fit a new base. to make a long story short take the boat to the dealer and ask them what they want to do. Also Silver Spray Sports has gone over and above my expectations would suggest them to any one we drive over three hours from the lake to them.

You sound like me Airtool! This kind of stuff usually puts me in a very negative, not able to sleep at night state of mind.

However, from time to time we get wake up calls in life and in the couple of weeks there have been two local families, one we know personally, dealing with tragedies that make this seat deal almost a non-issue for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to spread the word that the adult child taking over daddy’s vinyl repair business needs to get a new occupation, but “she” will escape the deserved tongue lashing due to my current state of mind.

              Thanks again!

Ha, I thought I was weird for not being able to sleep during trying times like these! The dumbbunny who detailed my boat before delivery wrecked my rear seat back, and I actually got out of bed one night, and headed to the garage to remove the skin. It was eating me alive!

That makes me Feel a bit better that I am not the only one that loses sleep over issues like this. I can handle the mechanical issues better for some reason, I think bc they are not usually a result of stupidity (on my part or a passengers). I have gotten used to a certain amount of problems with engine, gauges, etc as part of just owning a boat. But a tear in the upholstery drives me insane

Agree. We know of similar families and our church group has a prayer list a mile long.

The seat mark plus an earlier "issue" this summer are a result of two very stupid mistakes I made. Chances were low, but we will still very fortunate there was no damage to people and no damage to the environment. The only damage was to equipment. As expensive as this boat and all the equipment is, it is cheap compared to the rest of our lives. A fairly "well off" friend told me long ago, (he was 40 something when I was 19) "If money can take care of it, don't &%@*$!# worry about it." Now I know everyone is not "well off" but it is still a good point.

Every time I use my boat it gets put up a little less perfect than when I pulled it out. I've only been in my boat two times without one of my kids or a friend with me. Those trips were for service like heating up the engine oil or summerizing. I've been thankful for every moment and the only injury was a small toe cut from a clam shell (pardon me, bleed outside the boat please)

I was working with my son the other day and we are quite the team. He is nine and we've been doing this since 2006. My wife commented the other day on my handling the boat and him grabbing the rope, etc. (I've been boating since age 1 and "steering" since 7 or 8) I asked her, "Whats 228-97?" ...."That's how many hours I've sat in this seat piloting this boat." I have loved every minute. (7860 not counting the minutes when the engine was off.)

Now...off to bed. I hope I can sleep. Chances are good knowing CC has these skins for under 200 bucks.

Wow! Per Airtool and NautiqueJeff's advice herein I e-mailed David with Whitelake on 8/4 about the need to order a rear back seat new skin. David was out for the week so Carl deAndrade contacted me the next day on 8/5 and forwarded a diagram so I could pick out the actual part number. That day 8/5 Carl placed the skin order and copied me with the e-mail to Correct Craft. Yesterday on 8/16, only 11 days after the order was placed, I come home to a box at my front door with the new skin!

Thanks so much to White Lake Marine and Correct Craft, and thanks also to Airtool and NautiqueJeff!!!

                        Cotton !!!

I had just started sleeping again and you reminded me of my scratched seatback!!!

Actually I was in the boat today doing some burnouts to warm the engine for an oil change and my seat back wasn't looking so bad. The mark (not tear) actually added some character and reminded me how stupid I was that day. Anyway, it is low on the list but it might get changed over the winter. I'd like to order the skin while it is still made by CC.

PS - those guys at WL are great. One of my orders had a "special order" in it from CC and I told them to hold it all until the part showed up. Whoever packed the box didn't know this and wrote me a special note apologizing for the order being behind. Who else would do that?
