    Over Kill?!?!

I really haven't studied the new boats that are coming out. I really love the early 2000 San's plus I couldn't afford a new one if I wanted it. I own a 2004 Super Air 210 and could not be happier. I really don't need anymore in a boat than what I have right now. Anywho, I was reading about the new Malibu's and Tige's and was scratching my head at all these new hi-tech touch screen displays and what not. I was thinking to myself, wow right when the warranty runs out I could see all this crap flaking out. Gonna be expensive. I mean come on it's a marine environment, Its gonna screw up. Not sure if Nautique has this kinda feature on the dash of the new one's or not. Really havent seen anything over an 07. Also was thinking, is this just the boat companies way of justifying the high costs of the boats. To be honest I would rather not have all that crap. Just give me a boat that is dependable, throws a great wake, has plenty of room, easy to pull, and looks cool. If you want innovation, make boats easier and easier to maintain yourself. We all know that will never happen. How would the dealers make money?

So what do you guys think. Ready Go!

I totally agree. All those electronics + water = recipe for disaster, sooner or later.

Yeah, buddy owns a malibu and says hey can play movies and ps3 on the screen. How gay is that? Last thing I want to do is watch a movie or play ps3 on the lake. Idiots

Marine environments are tough. Hopefully these high-tech items work out long term, because they're pretty cool.

I'm with you mcnasty. Why would you want to play games on your boat. Thats the main reason to be on a boat. To get away from the house and enjoy being outside. Not to mention stomping a new trick.

Agreed, most of the recent "innovation" is worthless overkill. Its just a matter of time until these thing go out and i would hate to get stuck with the repair bill.

Ever see a post on here about keypad problems?
Ever see a post about Teleflex gauges going bad?
Ever see a post about problems with Stargazer/Zero off/Perfect Pass not holding speed?

I am glad my 1997 Ski Nautique with 2275 hours had none of that.
I can also read my gauges in direct sunlight, with polarized sunglasses on.

These new "upgrade" dashes represent a great opportunity for the boat manufacturers to replace a complicated arrange of multiple gauges that require individual wiring with a very easy to manage and very easy to install single unit that probably connects with a single plug to a brain that might have a connection to the motor computer and a few other sensors. You will see this become more popular and I would expect you will see many of the manufacturers phase out the individual gauges that I have been perfectly happy with for 30+ years of my boating life.

While Malibu and other companies are going to the touch screens, at least CC has stayed away from that. Touch screens can get flaky in a standard environment. I imagine that the outdoor environment combined with the vibration and shock typically found on the water, means that these won't last much past the warranty period.

I agree, Nautique has a glass facing on their LCD display. Should be better than long term than the finger mash screen.

Yeah jward, I get your point on all the electronics etc. being added to the boats but it will only increase. I just sold an 04 MC X-2 (very similar in size, performance, components to your 210) It had none of that new stuff, had a throttle cable which the Perfect Pass servo drove. Nothing ever broke except a couple bilge pumps.

That said, people griped when they went away from carbs to EFI, griped when they went to electronic throttles etc. I now own an awesome 2010 SAN 210 and I really like the LCD. Yes I can see it in direct sunlight with my polarized's on. But I hope all this new stuff like LCD and touchpads last because it will be $$ to replace once the warranty dies.

By the time you are ready to buy a new boat they may have the reliability up to where it's a non-issue.

I would love to have a complete unit/display to use on my SAN, however, the replacement issues are definitely a problem in my mind. I currently have the digital gauges on the 2002 SAN i own and they are in the process of going out. The beneficial part about that is I can just replace them with analog versions. If the screen goes out on the newer versions, the only option you have is to replace with the same unit from the dealer. $$$$$$$ I will say it would be cool if there was a usb input that you could videotape yourself boardng and then watch it on the display, but I just bring along a cheap travel tv to do that currently

This is currently part of the LINC system. It uses a composite input instead of USB, but the screen is capable of displaying video.

This is an interesting thread. Old School vs. New School. I love my 2010, 210 obviously for the wake, performance and looks, but I also love the LINC system, GPS, Zero Off, Video Inputs, Ipod interface, USB capability etc. Like me a lot of people think technology gadgets are cool, just look at Apple's success.
I recognize that there may be some repair costs over time, but I wouldn't have dropped the $$$ if I thought spending a few bucks along the way was going to be a problem. The 5 year warranty also provides some peace of mind and I viewed it as a big selling feature over the mastercraft with the 1 year warranty.

Owned the '84 SN2001 for over 19 years; NO stereo/radio. New boat I went all out and got a stereo/radio with four speakers. I haven't turned it on yet but the kids like it. However watching your run right after doing it would be extremely beneficial.

Was talking to a friend yesterday that did a video on a new Tige. He said the blower kept coming on and you had to go through like 3-4 different screens to access the blower. Then press the button to turn it off. Back out of all that to the home screen and after all that, it would just kick back on after about 10 min. He said they just said screw it and let it run all day. This is the kinda stuff I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong I think all of these ideas are really cool features. I just don't think its worth the cost in the beginning and after it fails. I just think its funny because my wake is better than that Tige's and if I want my blower on I press a button . If I want it off I press it again.
