Lakes around Fayetteville NC (Fort Bragg)

I'm meeting a bunch a friends in Fayetteville, NC this weekend and one of my buddies who is also coming into town asked if I was bringing the boat. Hadn't planned on it but I was wondering if there were any good lakes around that would be worth throwing the trailer on the back of the hitch before I drove down.

A quick google search showed me...

    Lake Surf

    Lommond Lake

Beaver Creek Pond (which looks bigger than Lommond Lake) on the map.

If anyone has any insight let me know. A weekend on the lake is better than any weekend at the pool IMO.

White Lake is located on HWY 701, just 58 miles from Ft Bragg and Lake Waccamaw is located 82 miles from Ft Bragg. Lake Waccamaw is the largest natural lake on the east coast (3.5 miles x 5 miles), but it can be shallow in some spots, so watch out for the occasional lilly pads. I'll be out there this weekend. This weekend there is a "Take the Lake" event which has a 15 mile hike, 15 mile bike ride, 14 mile kayak/canoe challenge, 4mile swim and 5 mile run. There is a small concert on the grounds in front of the Boys & Girls Homes Campus as well. So there will be plenty of activity and people around Lake Waccamaw this weekend.

I live in MN. But my brother lives in Raleigh and skis Falls Lake a lot. Its about 60 miles north on the north side of Raleigh. Its great lake for ridding, tons of arms to the lake, can find calm water almost everyday. Not sure you want to go an hour from Fayetteville? Also, its a reservoir, the north end can be a little shallow...no rocks, but watch out for logs and dead heads.

With this weekend being Labor Day, everything is going to be busy. As much as I love Whitelake, the boat traffic and general water conditions aren't going to be good enough to tube. Harris is a great lake to ski and wakeboard, but once again I think it'll probably be busy. Probably want to stay away from Jordan this weekend because it's packed on a normal weekend. Never been to Falls. All that being said, I still want to get mine out one day this weekend. Just not sure which direction I'll head.
