    Sunken boat rebuilds??

I've read quite a few threads here and other sites warning of the problems of trying to rebuild ANY boat that's been under water for more than a few minutes. And I've also read and seen where some of you have either rebuilt, or expressed interest in a boat that has been sunk. I just wanted to start a thread and get some feeback from those who have either rebuilt a sunken boat, knows somebody who took on this type of project, or whatever feedback you may have.

I suppose those who aren't afraid of electrical work, that this might be a good project, but, wouldn't the entire wiring harness need to be replaced? On the late model boats, the key pads would probably need to be replaced, along with the gateway system, instruments, PP or Zero Off. How about the engine drive by wire? Sensors on the engine should be ok, engine would probably be junk unless pickled right away, how about the transmissions/vdrive units?
    Ballast pumps junk? Stereo, etc...

Consider all the electrical connectors were designed to be above the water, not submerged in it. Same thing for all the electronics.

The upholstery foam will need to be replaced. The skins might be structurally OK, but stained.

All the cables will have corrosion in them.

All the mechanical parts will need to be dried out, and have any dirt that the water carried into them removed, also.

If you have to pay for the labor to do all the necessary work, you will be dollars ahead by buying a new boat.
