    A question of Chop..

Between the new 200CB and a 2009 196 can anyone give me feedback on which hull handles choppy water better

Just trying to weigh the pro's n con's of the new hull design..

    Thank you.

I work at a nautique dealership in NJ. I have an 06 196 and it handles the chop like every other direct drive ski boat with a narrow beam. The 200 handles the chop so much better than 196. The 200 holds tighter to the water. In chop, my 196 bow starts to bounce up and down. the 200 rides the wave much better. For the boats being similar, the ride in chop is much different. Call me crazy, but it handles reasonable chop better than some of the larger narrow boats. Example 211 and 220

Not a huge fan of the 200 when compared to the 196 but one of the areas that the 200 shines is in choppy water. Noticeably better than the 196.

Ha, clearly youve never been in any pre-1995 MC Prostar or any non-CC tournament boat from the 80's! I have always thought that Ski Nautiques rode like Cadillacs in comparison.

hah you got me on that one. all the guys that I know with older ski boats all have them on small lakes where there is never chop.

I had my 196 and a 200 out on Green Lake this summer, and the it was the worse water I've ever encountered. I noticed no perceptable difference in the two, other than the 196 takes more chop spray in through the sides. Drive a Prostar, and either the 200 or 196 will feel like a Cadillac!

I run about 3 miles out accross Deer point lake here in Panama City to get to our slalom course. Could not agree more about the differences between the other brands and the Nautiques as it pertains to choppy water handling. There really is no difference ride wise to me between the 196 and the 200 but would have to agree that the 196 you can get a little wetter from side spray.

Is that a pic of your boat in the latest Waterski mag? I apologize for the hijack!
