Has anyone shipped an 01 super air nautique in a 40 foot container?

I'm new on the site and couldn't find the answer using the search key. I'm looking at an 01 Super Air Nautique. I live in the Philippines so I'll have to ship it in a 40 foot container. Has anyone here shipped a SAN that way? The interior of a 40 foot container is supposedly 91 inches and the beam from a SAN is supposedly 91 inches. My Malibu LSV is way to wide to ship so I'm thinking of a SAN.
Any knowledge or help would be great.

    Thanks,
    Nick

I have some friends who shipped a SAN from Seattle to Brisbane. They were trying to use a container, but I think when they do that, they want it on a cradle, not on a trailer. They ended up shipping it with some company that turned out to be total jackazzes and put it on the deck, covered, and just strapped it down. In the end, the boat got there and everything was fine, but it was filthy, very expensive, and they lost (stole) the custom cover that was on the boat.
I would do extra work qualifying whomever ships it for you.

Sounds like a plan for a cracked hull. Those containers move and twist. When we packed roadcases in them we'd glue 2" foam to the sides and pack just tight enough that the cases touched but didn't compress the sides.

Containered, cradled pre 2007 SAN210's come to Australia all the time. It is perfectly fine to ship in a container.

Thanks! Has anyone shipped from San Francisco/Oakland? I have no idea how to find someone to build the cradle and pack it in the container. The shipping company has never done it so I'd like to find someone with experience.

          Thanks Again!

I would do a little (or a lot) more research and find a company that routinely provides this service. And check references. How about calling the company that ships the new boats over to the AUS dealers? Try and get them to do a one off shipment for you. My friends who imported the 99 PythonBoat had a pretty horrible experience, despite the boat ultimately getting there ok. There are a couple guys on CCF that have shipped boats and another that is in the process of shipping from LA now. Chopper is one, and Lewy2001 is another. I would hate to see you have a problem with some random shipping company when a qualified boat transporter is out there for perhaps slightly more money. Repeat, check references.

There is a member of the site named chopper who has shipped several boats, including a SAN to Australia using containers. He ships out of Los Angeles. I think perhpas he frequents CorrectCraftfan more often than this site. Another member over at CCfan, Lewy, is about to ship an air to Oz out of Los Angelese in a container.
You might send them PMs for shipper names, prep companies, etc.
The bigest problem they have spoke about is he shipping companies doing a sloppy job of cutting off the fenders from the trailer for shipping. BKH

Containers are 7'8 ½" internally 92.5" so the 91" beam is fine. The trouble is the trailer will not fit. They need to have the wheels, axles and guards removed. You will also need to cut the side steps off the trailer. How this is done makes are big difference in how easy they are to weld back on. They drag and push the trailer in the container using the springs as sleds on timber work. I seen a couple of boats being pulled out of a container at the port of Brisbane the port workers are not that careful.

You could put the boat on a cradle and load the trailer sideways in the container but it may need a seperate container. I have heard the old Aussie importer used to get 4 boats in a 40' container without trailers. Have attached a couple of pics of other boats that had a beam wider than the container on their cradles.

I've used JTC Global to ship a boat to Australia, they were easy to deal with and the customer was happy. There were no container constraints, the boat was 102" wide as was the trailer (with the guides removed). I'm not sure what happened at port but we put EVERYTHING in the boat and shrinkwrapped it all to ensure it was pristine when it left out lot. JTC picked it up here and handled the rest.

Sorry, no idea on the cost, the customer arranged that end of the deal.
Sold my boat to buy a house, the house is much less fun.

I didn't know you can ask for quotes for international shipping. I've seen some Nautiques shipped around the States but nothing out of the country.
Actually I have a shipper/forwarder who can ship from Oakland to the Philippines but they have never shipped a boat. I'm really looking for someone who can pack the container and build a cradle or something for the boat.

                      Thanks,
                      Nick

I work in Compton/Carson/Long Beach CA area where there are a bunch of similar shipping company's. All they do is pack ski boats, Harleys and classic cars into containers and ship to Australia, New Zealand, Asia...etc.

I don't have any numbers/names of the shipping companies. But I know boat dealers like "Boat Hunters" in Burbank 818-8480847 ship a bunch there.

Shipped a 2000 sport nautique from longbeach to melbourne last year , no problems , in a 40 ft container with trailer. All shipping was arranged from melbourne by a ski shop owner who ships plenty of boats, cars and jet skis , all done for a very good quoted price and no problems . I am thinking of purchasing another boat soon , from the same dealer using the same shipping method , all very easy , just a nervous wait to see what you have purchased!!

                            Has anyone shipped a SAN

                            If you still need help?
I has a SN shipped from Florida USA to Dubai in the UAE. The boat lay on two cradles, like mini trailers with castors (each cradle has 4 castors on it) The boat shipped with the prop off and the boat was starpped to the cradles so that the cradles would not move apart or towards each other. The castors were chocked to the container floor and the boat/cradle set up was tied down to the cleats on the container side. Only suggestion I would make is not to load the boat too far towards to end of the container because the rub rail on the boat may knock up against the container wall and cause damage. Might want to fix pieces of soft timber between the boat front/back/sides for added protection. Other than that my new boat arrived safe and sound. I would not ship any other way. If you need pics let me know and I'll send to you.
