3rd Party Trailers

After talking with a rep. from MC recently, one of his reasons why MC was better than CC, was that MC made their own trailers--didn't sound like a very good reason, but it was. He said this got rid of all wood on the trailer and each one was customized to the boat specifically by the company.

Do you like having the choice and ability to customize each trailer personally, or would you rather CC make their own trailers so that each trailer is customized for the boat by the company itself? Why or why not?

I'll start and say that I personally think that Ram-Lin (I would speak for others like DHM and Prestige if I could) does an excellent job of making their trailers are great quality and have an excellent fit and finish on the Nautique. It is so nice that I am sure it is as good if not better than what MC makes. And if it weren't for a small 3rd party trailer company, I don't think we could have gotten our trailer as customized as it would have been if made by CC.

CC used to make trailers up until 1996. At that point, they simply ran out of room at the factory. This is when they turned it all over to Ram-Lin. Ram-Lin is the only "factory approved" trailer for CC. It will be interesting to see if they go back to making thier own trailers again when they get the new factory up and going.

I know Mid-Ohio Nautiques was looking into designing and building trailers themselves a few months ago. I wonder if they ever made any. I'd like to see what they came up with.

When I picked up my SANTE the 226 was just being introduced, and one of the Meloons was dropping off a 226 for the local trailer mfg (magnum) to custom fit a trailer for it. The company uses an actual boat to determine where the bunks should go, how long and what not. Actually, from what I understand, every trailer that magnum makes is custom fitted to the specific model boat ragardless of the make or model.

Personally, I like the idea that my trailer builder is local so if I have a problem, they can get it to work on it.

Given the fact that the boat (226) was delivered by CC for fitting, I don't understand the thought that there is only one "factory approved" trailer mfg out there. Heck, I don't understand the idea of any factory approved trailers not actually made by CC.
