    Fuel?

In our 2011 210 409 we running 98octane New Zealand.
What are others running etc. Fuel here is rather expensive.

I beleive they are tuned for 91 octane?

    Cheers

As a matter of interest what do you pay per gallon?

Here in the UK I pay around $8.60 if I buy at the car station and take it to the boat in cans, $10.70 if I buy it on the lake.

    That's converted to USD ofc.

I run regular, which I think is 87 or 89 octane and no problems. As mentioned in another thread, which I'm not sure is an issue outside of the US or not, is the importance of no ethonol gas. I have solved all my fuel issues by using gas with no ethonol.

Just to add confusion, I do believe the US calculates octane differently than other countries.

Cedarcreek, where are you finding ethanol free gas? Just curious, here in the Chicago-land area it seems all that stations have at least 10% ethanol.

We use BP Ultimate which dont beleive has ethonol and should be 98 octane. My conversion worked out to $5.50 a gallon USD. Im sure thats wrong. New Zealnd fuel is supposed to be very expensive

I've had no issues with e10 (10% ethanol) in ANY of my engines. Small, large, automotive, marine, bike, sled, weedwacker, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, 100 degree days and -30 degree days....

Been running E10 here for 20 some years.

Don't fall for the hype about ethanol ruining engines.... It's bad info. The only thing e10 does that is a hindrance is use a little more gas than non oxygenated gas. The ethanol is a cleaner and will clean your tank and lines, depositing old impurities that get stuck to the tank and other surfaces over the years. A clean fuel filter fixes that. IMO, that's a good thing, not a bad one if you pay attention to this quality of E10.

As a matter of fact , the majority of my nautique's hours on it (it's a 78) have been on E10.

Yes, there are differences in how octane is measured. It varies from country to country. I had a great link not too long ago. Let me see if I can find it. Supposedly these motors are made for 89 octane, but I've seen no issues from using 87. Maybe the extra octane from the ethanol is helping

I live in Oregon, USA, and have been running 89 octane E-10 gasoline in my 1997 Ski Nautique, for many years. It has over 2295 hours.
If anything, E-10 keeps the water from building up in the tank.

The gasoline here is commonly available in three grades. 87, 89, and I think 92 octane. It might be a little off, but I would suggest that if gasoline in New Zealand is available in three grades, the lowest grade probably is close to a USA 87, the highest grade is a USA 92 octane, and the middle grade is a 89. No matter what arbitrary number New Zealand assigns to it.

All the modern engines have a knock sensor on them. If you run too low of an octane, the engine's computer automatically retards the timing, to prevent knock. Performance may suffer a bit. The opposite is not true, using too high of an octane rating does not cause the engine to advance the timing, the fuel just burn a little slower, and again, performance will suffer.

The ethonol does keep the water out of the tank, that's one of the jobs of the ethonol in the gas. However the water attaches to the fuel and was clogging the fuel filter. I am sure people have been runnning ethonol fuel for ever as mentioned on here, but I had fuel issues until I quit using it, haven't had any sense. The dealer replaced ever part of the fuel system minus the tank and could not find or correct the problem, using ethonol free gas fixed it and I haven't been back to the dealer since. That being said, on our previous two boats, not PCM engines, we used E-10 or E-15 gas and had no problems.

There is a marina on our lake that has ethonol free gas and proudly advertise it so that's where we fuel up. We pay a premium for it, but it's worth it not to have to pull the boat and hour and a half each way to the dealer. FYI we pay $3.70 a gallon for ethonol free gas on the lake.

Maybe the problem with your fuel was with the place of purchase??? Not with the ethanol.

Yeah weve got 91, 95 or 98 in New Zealand. Most performance car etc run on 95 or 98. What you said sounds correct

I'm curious..next time note on the pump if it is based on the "R" method, the "M" method, or the "(R+M)/2" method.
