What's up with the SAN 220?

I currently have an '03 SANTE 210 but have been offered an awesome deal for my boat, from someone who wants a colored deck, and a left over 2009 SANTE 220. The dealer is facilitating the deal.

I have never been in a 220, how is the wake? I never seem to see much discussion on this boat. I tried the search function but didn't really find much. What are the opinions on the 220, why was it discontinued?

    Thanks,
    Brearly Mason

the 220 is a great boat with a huge wake and lots of interior room. one of its pitfalls is that the wake is finicky so you need to have it balanced perfectly to have it clean when wakeboarding. you can do some searches on here to see all the posts about this.

When you say finicky are you saying it's just hard to even out or are you saying it's almost impossible to even out?

I have a flynhi fat brick sack that I think weighs 155 pounds, will that work to even it out? Is the wake useable as compared to my old SANTE wake?

The wake behind the 220 is not nearly as easy to keep clean as the old 210 wake. I'd definitely demo the boat first. It's a nice boat, but you should not buy until you try.

That is the problem. I do not have a local dealer. The guy who has made the offer to buy my boat has it worked out where he buys my boat and I end up with the 220... I would pay nothing. My boat has about 800 hours on it, while the 220 is new. It seems like a no brainer to me, but it's not if I can't get a good wake out of the 220.

that sounds awfully sketchy ... you might inquire as to how exactly he worked that deal out

As I read this, is seems somebody wants to trade a 2009 Correct Craft 220 for your 2003 Correct Craft Super Air 210? Just because you have a colored deck?

If it sounds too good to be true, It probably is not true.

Before you even consider this, you have to get a ride in and behind the 220 that is being considered for the trade. Not a quick "test drive", an actual test of the boat to see if it is suitable for your needs. Make sure you ride behind it, also. When you go for the test drive in the 220, do not close the deal on that day. Leave your Super Air at home. Leave your wallet at home. Make sure you are in a position where you cannot be pushed or persuaded into a deal on that day, that you will later regret.

The basic hull shape of bottom of your Super Air was introduced in 1995. Correct Craft kept using it until 2007. That alone tells me it was a good hull shape. Then consider the short use of the hull shape of the 220. I would think that if it was a good boat, Correct Craft would have bothered to use the mold for this boat a few years longer.

Not a scam or anything else. The guy wants my boat very badly and his offer is to buy me the 220 in exchange for me giving him my 210. It's all on the up and up and I have spoken with both the dealer. The guy owns a small chain of used car dealerships and does every well.

                    220

I have three years behind my 220. I usually just move people in the boat to help clean the wake up. It is sensitive to side to side weight, but is very manageable. If you pause slightly when you cut out and then keep a good edge into the wake it will be very clean. It actually teaches you to slow down and use your edge.

I do run a fly high ballast on top of the factory. This boat likes to have plenty of weight in the bow. Very rarely do I fill the bags on top of the tanks in the rear. Factory ballast plus the integrated bow sack makes a very usable wake. I am not a guy that likes to brag about how much weight is in my boat, just to jump wake-to-wake. Some pretty impressive things have been done behind this boat with factory ballast. The size of the wake should not be a worry when buying htis boat. If anything I would say that it is not very begginer friendly. I have taught quite a few people behind this boat, and it looks like they are dropping in on a half-pipe and falling on their butt.

The 220 has a very good surf wake. No complaints at all. I use the fly high ballast more for surfing than wakeboarding.

The interior is hard for some to overcome. It works very well if you give it a chance. I have had around ten people in the boat while riding and it was comfortable.

                        $35K 03 210 = $75K 09 220? Is this new math?

do the deal and if you don't like it sell it and buy another old body 210 and have some pocket change.

If it's all on the up and up and you'll pay nothing, take a couple days off and fly up to see the boat and test it out. Heck if the guy is that desprerate, see if he will half the airfare. I went from an 01 Air to a 2006 220 and love it. The wake is easy to balance out just by moving a body over a couple inches on a seat or moving a kid. I was looking at 03-06 210's but chose to go with the bigger interior as we do alot of family floating in the summer. Wife can take a nap in the bow while the kids play off the back and I sip on a soda pop. Like Gride said, if you cant get up there to demo it, and you still do the deal and end up not liking it, sell it and get what you want. My 3 cents
