    Trailer Brakes

How do you know if your trailer brakes are working or not? i bought my boat used and I'm not sure if the brakes are working or not, I've never had a boat trailer with working brakes so I'm not sure what it is supposed to feel like when they work. Any way to test them? Will they up if you get hard on the brakes?

Do you have disk brake, or drum brakes?
If you have disk brakes, unplug the electrical connector to the tow vehicle. try to back up a slight hill. With disk brakes, the trailer probably will not move.
With drum brakes, and the electrical connector unplugged, you can force them to back, but you should definitely feel the trailer not rolling freely

      Brakes

I have disc brakes, so they should lock up when backing with the wiring harness unplugged? I'll give that a try. Thanks.

Even on level ground, most of the time the disk brakes will prevent you from backing up if you do not connect the trailer electrical plug.
