I recently picked up my latest nautique and in my quest to learn as much about my year model I have found several oddities. The biggest one is that it was built with a left over 2000 model engine. This I am actually really stoked about because it means that I have the big python 502. Whats weird is my boat was a late 2001 build in June. I am just curious if there were any 2001 model boats actually built with the 496 python. The other part is I noticed when I got my faria replacements I noticed that my boat has a newer 2002 model year dash with the ballast guages on the pod. Does anyone else have odd year parts on their boats?

When any thing is made on a production basis, there is a usual "standard" set of parts that are intended for that object. Usually, the higher the production numbers, the more "standard" and uniform each item is to the next one on the production line. That is the usual planning, anyway.
In reality, if you are on the line, making something, you use what you got. Here is an example.
I have a 1974 Ford F-250 Supercab Ranger trim package "Camper Special" pickup.
Supposedly, in 1974, the top of the line engine was the 2 barrel 390 cubic inch engine. My truck has the 4 barrel carb engine, and the 4 barrel engine code"M" that was not even supposedly offered that year. My guess it that when the truck was being made in July of 1974, when the truck, and the engine met on the assembly line, there was the four barrel engine, and it just got put in.
Also as parts get used up, a mid model year change will be made. in 2002, at the beginning of the year, you could get your Correct Craft boats with the Ford GT-40 engine. At the end of model year, GM engines were your only option.
Likewise, when PCM switched from the 502 to the 496 big block engines, there may have been some overlap on which engine went into each boat.

Unfortunately I am the third owner and it was a trade in so I never got to speak with either. I did call correct craft and get the build sheet on it, but no mention of special ordering the 502 over the 496. At this point it doesn't really matter just interesting to me. The cool part is if I was to special order a boat in 2001, it would be exactly as this one was ordered odd parts and all. Not sure I will ever part with this one.2001 Super Air Nautique

I'm pretty sure all 2001 boats had the 502 Python, 2002's came with the 496. I know of a March or April build 2001 Sport that got the 502 Python (although that may have been the last 502 they put in).
In 2001 the dash had the provisions for the small gauges by the steering wheel, that is not too unusual. Mine has it.
All good things though, your boat is sick. Can't wait to see what you do with it.2001 Pro Air Nautique

What had me stumped was the 2001 brochure referred to the Python as the 8.1 litre. And I am pretty sure per PCM that the pythons actually made in 2001 were 8.1L(496) motors. I had my dealer call with my engine serial number and confirm that it was a 2000 build motor. Maybe correct craft was over zealous and ordered a bunch for 2000 models and no one really wanted to spend the money to upgrade. Kinda makes you wonder how many boats leave the factory now with the upgraded 409 motors?2001 Super Air Nautique
