Thinking about a new Sport 200

I am a Malibu owner and I am thinking about moving to a Sport Nautique 200.

We both ski and wakeboard and may start surfing at some time. I am looking at the Malibu VTX and the Nautique Sport 200. I ski decently (32 off at 32-36) and wakeboard ok (clearing the wake all the time and some spins but no inverts).

I am wondering what people can tell me about what they think about the 200 for my usage.

the 200 Sport is just now starting production and should be hitting dealerships within the next month or two. Several on here have had the pleasure of seeing the prototype in Orlando. To sum it up: it's the ultimate cross-over boat.

It's supposed to ski as well as a 196 but they are saying it throws a decent wakeboard wake also. For those that do all and have a family, it sounds like CC hit it on the head. I can't wait to get owner feedback.

If you want more info, there are several threads on here discussing it.

As a side note: at one point I was looking at a VTX with the diamond cut hull for a v-drive that ski's, but decided I couldn't leave Nautique. Now that the 200 Sport is out, it's going to be VERY hard for me to not trade up.

If you are skiing 32 off, that is pretty serious, the speed your crossing the wake is high. Very few people are using a crossover boat at those speeds. I would be very carefuly listening to the marketing hype on either the VTX or Sport 200 and ski the course behind the boat before you invest. My guess is you will see a bigger difference, the slower the speed caused by the higher overall boat weight and weight placement. Meaning at 32 MPH the wake differiantial will be bigger than at 36MPH. But at 36, any wake differiantial and your risking a hospital stay.

My heart is saddened that the mighty 196 is now relegated as a comparision for a V drive crossover boat. I'm sure the Sport 200 is absolutely awesome, for what it is, but I'd have to ski it to believe it's at parity with a 196. As stated, get behind it before buying it.

The MC 214V was also an AWSA approved boat, but hardly a PS190/197. But once again, an absolutely awesome crossover.

I have been behind a 200 Sport. It is the real deal. There are no other crossover boats that compare. Far better wake than a Malibu RLXI direct drive and easily comparable in my opinion to a 196 wake. That is not a knock on the 196 at all.

I had the pleasure on getting my family and friends in the Sport 200. Had a pro slalom rider behind the sport 200 and he loved it - said the wake was extremely close to the Ski 200 - I had the hard time since I have never pulled a pro slalom rider before - it was fun. Then later in the day we were wakesurfing behind it and had a blast, great wake.

I wonder if any promo members will run one this year? I bet it would be an easy sell at the end of the season. I could see this boat being the #1 seller for them in 2011.

I have very little problem believing that the slalom wake is good/great on the Sport 200. However, I do have a hard time believing that the Wake Board and Surf wakes are ALSO good/great. If the comparo is: a 196 is a great ski boat, but you can wakeboard behind it, I understand that. However, the marketers are pushing a stance that the Sport 200 can replace both the 196 and the 210. Sorry, I'm not buying that at all.

                    On my wish list

I've had the pleasure of skiing (22' off) and boarding behind the Sport 200. For me and my family the boat is everything we would want in a boat. At 22 off and closer (32mph) it's as good as any DD ski boat I've ever been behind, and very comparable to the Ski 200.
For boarding, it is a great wake for the non-pro guys and gals out there. Very fat and good transitional wake. It does't have the sharper lip that the super airs have, which may be a good thing for many of us.
The interior is user friendly, with a slightly higher freeboard (good for those of us with kids). In all, it was a great ski boat, very good wake boat with the interior advantages of a V-drive.

D@mn! and I just bought a 200 for solely for skiing. I wonder how many pro skiers are going to have one on their lift to train behind? How my pro wakeboarders are going to want one?

A cross over is exactly that, a tradeoff...............and another 15k!

As far as I know, the 200 will be the only 3event promo boat. Not saying it wouldn't be a bad idea though. However, the 200s are selling quite well too.

We had 2 fat sacs as well as the ballast filled while wakesurfing and the wake was crazy big and long.

The MSRP is only $1800 more than a comparable 200OB.

For those who have had the pleasure of skiing behind this boat, how is the ski wake at 30 mph? The rest of the family would not be happy if I traded in the Bu for a boat that didn't have a better wake at their speed.
