If my '90 isnt new (valuable) enough to allow for an agreed upon value policy, Id hate to see what my '71 Correct Craft would be worth in SkiSafe's eyes!
Not a problem, if you've got the coverage you need then by all means hang onto it. Only thing to note is that at least at SkiSafe, we don't determine the boat's market value. This is literally based on the market -- what the boat is being bought and sold for by the public at large rather than any in-house determination.

      Hey SkiSafe,

Your company use to cover my boat insurance and than for some reason stopped covering canadian boats. What gives and have you changed your policy?

      Thanks

        Hey Danny,
We are able to provide customers coverage in Canada as long as you have a United States residence for the mailing. We hope that this works for you and it would be our pleasure to insure you again. Feel free to call us at 800-225-6560 or go to www.skisafe.com to quote your boat.

I'd love to get a quote, but I don't think y'all cover my area last time I inquired a couple years ago. If things have changed for 36608 please let me know. Thanks.

We have always used Ski Safe and have been very happy with the service as well as the price...but after reading this thread, and the fact that we're picking up our 2012 SANTE 230 on May 12 - - I called my insurance agent to quote me for the boat coverage (he represents Sta** F**m) -- using the similar numbers and parameters I gave to Ski Safe for their quote - St**e F**m came back at $1,041 - with a $500 deductible whereas Ski Safe is/was several hundred dollars less, but with I think a $1,000 deductible...I also have to say that I personaly feel Ski Safe has a much better understanding of me and my boat and what we do and how we use it, just my opinion -- I love St**e F**m for my car/home etc. just not sure its a pefect match for my boating needs.

At least two key questions to ask about with respect to boat damage:

                1. Where your boat is stored and how that affects its coverage.

                2. Named tropical storm damage. How is that handled. Seems now there is fine print about where your boat is stored or where it is when the storm comes in....and there may be like a 25% or 10K deductible. That's big bucks on an expensive boat.

The only reason that I went with another company besides ski-safe, is that about 2 years ago, after about 20 years with Ski safe and no claims, they all of a sudden wanted to almost double what I'd been paying them. When I tried to inquire as to why, I was met with "that our insuring guidelines had changed" and that "since I had only received a few minor increased over the 20 years, this major increase was needed". Thank you for helping Jeff with being a site sponsor, but I found same or better coverage, for less, with stated value loss for boat and trailer, and windstorm coverage.
                  Have a great day!

George, a big thanks to you for sponsoring this site. Because you are a site sponsor, I always check your rates each spring and compare them to my current policy. Once again, your sponsorship of this site is much appreciated.

Just paid for our new Ski Safe policy today, to be activated in a few days on our 2012 Super Air Nautique 230 -- picking up the new rig on Saturday.

A big thanks to Rich and the crew over at Ski Safe for what they do for us boaters and especially the Planet Nautique family. Our policy with Ski Safe was roughly 40% less than what I was quoted elsewhere.

Lets all have a safe season.

After checking on line, a discussion with my agent, and a discussion with skisafe, I just set up the new policy on my 85 Stars and Stripes. I may have to revisit in 2 years, as they tell me that despite what I had read in this thread FMV is the blue book, and baring evidence to the contrary they go with the average of the values. The actual selling price of similar boats does not affect FMV, according to what I have been told.

Hi madcityskier, glad you raised this point and it sounds like you were able work through this with one of my colleagues. While the NADA or BUC guides are always a reference point, they're by no means the final answer on FMV. We'll absolutely look to see what a boat is regularly selling for and honor that whenever possible. The blue books are more helpful when working with boats where market data just isn't available.

I hope that makes sense but definitely let me know if you have any other questions!

                              Thanks,
                              Rich

                                Helpful hints for boaters

Hey Everyone - thought some of you might find this useful:

                                CHECK YOUR STRUT BEARING

Over time the rubber in the bearing can become worn. When this happens you may feel some vibration and if the bearing is not replaced it can wear the propeller shaft. It is possible to wear the shaft to the point that it needs to be replaced.

The strut supports the propeller shaft just forward of the propeller. A bearing in the form of a bronze sleeve lined with rubber is the device that limits the movement of the propeller shaft in the strut and provides a surface for the shaft to turn on.

A quick way to check the condition of the bearing, and avoid repair costs, is to grab the propeller and attempt to move the shaft up and down and side to side. If the bearing is good there will be no movement. If there is movement it would be best to have your shop replace the bearing before additional damage occurs.
