Insurance Coverage

Hello All--

We are happy and proud owners of an awesome 2007 Crossover 211. I have some insurance questions. We've had boats before, but never a ski boat, or even anything we've towed people with, so this type of use is new to us. I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good level of coverage for the insurance. The hull etc will be agreed value, but its the medical and liablilty I'm most interested in. I'd hate to be underinsured if something terrible happened. We will be using the boat for wakeboard, skiing and tubing etc. I just want to make sure I'm fully covered, yet not overpay either.

Any suggestions? Anything I may be overlooking? We are in Massachusetts.

Ski Safe

I have had quotes given to me by Ski safe that blew my state farm numbers out of the water. They are a site sponsor and understand our situations very well. I am heavily considering switching my policy to them if I keep the boat.

I would suggest a general liability policy of $1,000,000 to cover your liability for all your belongings... they are pretty cheap overall, mine is less that $250/year.

As stated above SkiSafe is a site sponsor, and that's not just because they pay us for the ad space. I only allow the best companies to be sponsors here. I have worked with SkiSafe for many years. They have insured a number of my boats. Give them a call, and let them know that you heard about them here. They'll give you some valuable suggestions as to the coverage that would work well for you.

If you are in a wind storm area (e.g. named hurricanes), please tripple check the coverage they (especially Ski Safe) propose and fine print about where your boat is stored or temporarily located. You don't want to be surprised later to find out you are under insured.

Stick with a company that primarily insures ski boats. I did some comparison shopping a while back, and some companies that were more into car insurance wanted the driving records of everybody who would be driving my boat. If somebody not listed was driving, and an accident occurred, no coverage.

Keep in mind Insurance companies are not your friend. You are not in good hands with any of them. They are a business, to make money. They are not in business to give out money.
