Got tools in your boat?

I have a small toolbox that I keep in my boat. It seems to have everything I need to disasemble my whole boat, LOL and then some. I was wondering if you guys have one in your boat and if you do how complete is it? It has come in handy more than a few times. Its nice having tools in the boat.

American wrench set, Metric wrench set.
American sockets, Metric sockets
Large flat head, Large phlips.
Stubby flat head, Stubby phlips.
adjustable screwdriver.
Cresent wrench.
Amp clamp/voltmeter
American and metric allen wrenches
Wire strippers and wire
butane soder and soder gun
large and small wire strippers and crimpers
Shrinktube razorknife, small crimp's and Electrical tape
Gloves.

I also keep some spare parts like extra, Impeller and Alternator belt and starter solonoid

I keep a tool kit with me in whatever vehicle I am in. Mine isn't quite as complete as Grant's, but it has come in handy a few times. It mostly gets used when I stop to help stranded boaters on the lake. The allen wrenches have come in handy a few times on my boat when the tower accessories loosen up.

I bought a set from West Marine. It's in a plastic case with a rubber seal to keep out moisture. Haven't had to use it yet................

I carry a phillips screwdriver for binding adjustments, thats all.

Considering we primarily use the boat on one lake with friends' houses on it, we don't have to keep tools. If we trailered to random lakes, we'd probably have all the hand tools Grant has minus his electronic repair stuff.

I too carry a tool set but not quite as complete as Grant's. However, I would suggest three additional items that have come in handy several times:

1) Tire repair kit! I've picked up my share of nails and bolts along the side of the road and these come in handy.

2) Portable air compressor/battery jumper. Useful should you need the tire repair kit and when you've left the stereo on too long and don't have enough juice to crank over the motor.

3) Duct tape. Never leave home without it.

I carry a tool kit simelar to grants, with the addition of duct tape, pliers and a little dental pick that always seems to come in handy for things. Also spare belts, impellar, bilge pump, first aid kit. It all fits in a handy rubbermade container up under the bow.

Tyler0, good call on the portable air compressor and duct tape.

While we were vacationing in Maine, we were happy to find out that one of the tires had a flat, after sitting for two weeks, the night before we left for a 6 hour drive. Not sure where it is from but its got a jumper w/ cables, and portable air compressor, very handy.

Very handy indeed. My came from where else but Costco. It really saved my brother too. He has a portable jumper as well and his battery died while fishing out at the Coronado Islands off the Coast of San Diego (bait tank motor). That little jumper saved him from having to call the Coast Guard.

It can be a very expensive day when you have gas at $2.99 for the boat and then Cosco 5 minutes away from the lake on the way home.

I had a box of tools on my boat and an extra impeller. At a couple of the events I attended I can't believe how many boat owners asked to borrow my tools! Even gave up my extra impeller - All of it came in handy. Two other things I would add to the list - traveling far? Spare prop is a must! And it sounds crazy, but nothing will tick you off quicker than a broken rope and handle.

As important as duct tape is Wire Ties/Zip Strips.....various sizes. Put the license plate back on, tie a rope to a dock, hold bumpers, take the place of a rivet that came out of a piece of AL trim, etc. They are the universal fastener replacement.

I have a extra prop and and puller in a case I just dont bring it on the boat, I would rather limp back to the trailer and change it there, than risk droping my $400 prop and 100 dollar puller in the water. I also keep the Zip ties and a few other small nick nack's in my tool box, I to am suprised at how many people dont keep tools on there boat, You cant see it in the Photo but I keep a Leatherman all in one tool/knife in the tool box, I keep it taped to the inside top of the tool box so that its always there. First thing if you need it in a emergncy god forbid the rope get caught on some one or thing I dont want to be digging threw my tool box looking for that roap knife in a hurry. IMO if your going to only have one tool on your boat this is it. Leatherman
