Looking for Towable cover for your boat

A friend of my'n was talking about a boat cover that coverd the interior of the boat, It didnt use snap's or buttons, It was a cover that you could tow with that would keep the dirt out of the interior of you boat. He said it attached to the rub rail Via a plastic "C" shaped locking system that attached to the rub rail with no add ons or extras. It also has some sort of straps that would tighten it up, I have seen photos of cover that cover the interior of the boat but nothing that I would use because it used buttons all the way around the boat, Have you seen the cover Im talking about????
I dont know if this boat (photo) uses that type of rub rail attach system like im talking about
but its sort of what Im looking for, This cover looks like it might be to loose to tow with??

That looks like the factory snap on cover to me or a MWCC cover. Either way, it is not enough to tow with, without the addition of tie down ropes/straps

To me, that looks way too loose to tow with. Here's a shot of my cover. It is very tight and doesn't move around at all. It does snap under the rubrail, but the snaps are hidden when the cover is off. I really like this cover, and intend to have another just like it on any future boats I own.

Do you mean the type of cover that uses the turnbuckle at the back? Thats all I can think of, but I can picture what your saying. You mean the rubrail being on the inside of the "C" that then clamps down and grabs the rubrail?

I personally find snaps are the best under the rubrail also. This one was customized by a very good local guy who does all the covers for the Nautique dealer, so he knows what hes doing. Nice thing about this compared to another style is that with snaps, the cover is equally tight or snug throughout the boat. There are weeks of rain and snow that sit on the cover and no moisture in gets in the boat or any puddles on the cover. This is what it looks like in the rain.

P.S what are the POP Tent looking things that hold your covers us so the Rain dosent pool, Is it a structure that you put up under the cover???

Yeah. Just three simple adjustable poles with rubber on the bottom and a snap on the top. Right before you cover that area, place it down and it stays in place when snapped in while you finish the boat. I think its a must, especially if you plan to leave the boat outside for long periods of time. Rain just dripps off it like wax paper.

But thats too low-tech for you Grant. I'm sure you could invent some pop-up ones that come out from the floorboard or something...

I think mine is a factory cover, and it does not look like any of the other covers posted. It has the nautique or CC logo across where the windshield is.

It has no snaps on it, and only has a pocket for a rope to go around the boat under the rub rail. Between the tower legs on both sides the pocket opens with velcro flaps so you can tighten the ropes with some "pulley ratchets" that are encased in the pocket when the flaps are sealed. it also has "boots" that go up and around the first 8" of the tower legs. The profile is very similar to Jeff's.

Also, I have towed with the cover on, and it has not scratch the hull, but my deck is white show scratches don't show easily.

ag4ever.. I think I've got the same cover. I don't know the brand, will look it up when I'm home. A question about the cover; I have got 2 rolls with a hook deliverd with it... Do you know how this works??

I was wrong on the maker of my cover.

It turns out it is made by Westland out of Tempe, AZ.

It has the rope that runs around the perimeter of the boat and cinches down with two ratches devices on each side. It also had provisions for snaps and straps. It has four snaps on each side that are sewn into short nylon straps that are just long enough for snaps installed in the bottom of the rub rail. I don't have the snaps in the rub rail, but might put them in to make it better when I tow with the cover on. It also has some short sections of the nylon straps on the outside of the cover with a plastic ring on the end for straps to secure it to the trailer. I don't have the straps either, and probably won't ever use the straps since they would just flap in the wind.

Rankin covers are great, and well-worth the investment. They are just up the hill from me, and they stand behind their product. Pretty snug fitting so very little need for any support poles. Another way for inexpensive cover support is to take some 1" PVC and some fittings and build a little cage that fits behind/in front of the engine box to support the cover in any low spot. I have some friends that have done that, and worked well. Easy and light to lift in/out of the boat, collapsable, and no chance of a pole slipping out of place. Just a thought...

I was following the Rankin group purchase on MBO, seems like about 1/2 of the covers had issues with the tower holes being in the wrong place. I also don't like the uncovered back due to the fact the the rear of my boat faces south on my hydro-hoist. I spoke with Dawnine of Dawnine's custom canvas and I will probably get one her full side boat covers for my next boat, I just like the idea of it being made locally where I can tell her face to face exactly what I want. She says both her regular cover and full cover are trailerable. She used to Make the Nautique covers for Central Valley Marine. Give her a call 295-625-9979.

Anybody have any feedback about Dawnine's covers?
