Why does everyone feel that it is wrong for someone to stand up for what they beleave in anymore. If I am not mistaken that is what this country was founded on. Really and truely, if Correct Craft offends you that bad, don't buy their products.

I think in this day and age a little religion is not a bad thing, and if you think CC is just still doing "the religion thing" for marketing, you must not have ever been to a reunion with Walt. I was at the San Antonio reunion last year, and he was the nicest man, but very grounded with religion. He sold one of his personal boats to a christian camp here for a very low price. He started the lunch with a prayer that he personally gave. Every time I spoke to him he was not pushy, but everything was related to religion.
I also take offense to people that condemn a company just because they have some religious values in their company, assuming the values are truthfull, which I am convenced CC is. If you can't stand reading the scripture in the brochures, then don't read them.
I also aggre that seeing pretty women in skipmy outfits is not a bad thing, but then again, I would not want to force that upon those that don't want to see it too.

Chick-Fil-A, Overtons, and Discount Inboard Marine (great group of folks and wealth of knowledge)are more buisness that promote religion in their vision. Social responsibility is one business concept that some base their practices around. Ben and Jerry's (before the buyout) were enviormentally and small business supportive. There are many companies out there that aren't center totally around making the most sells and growing to be the largerst company in the industry. Many of them have a core set of values that they started with and stand by, even at the risk of losing sells. You don't have to attend earth day to appreciate good ice cream and I don't think you have to be religous to appreaciate a CC. If they focus their business around religion and it motivates the personnel to remain focused and build the products they do...... God bless them. But then again, I don't get offended if someone wishes me a Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. I know some folks who didn't go see the Polar Express because they thought Tom Hanks may be a Liberal. Unless the proceeds go to support Terrorism, I will purchase the product that supports my needs the best and provides me the most value for my dollar. CC could hand out brochures about snake handling and gathering together in the mountains and I would still appreciate the quality of the boat. This isn't something new that CC just started doing and it isn't some dirty little corporate secret that just got exposed. I don't think they need to change their business concept to maintain sells and their placed in the market.

Man....religion is a bad thing to talk about in person....even worse on a message board. My stance is this, put a bible in every boat you sell if you want, just make a quality product and an atheist will put down their dollars.
I think it is a good way to get their beliefs to the masses, making a quality product allows them that opportunity. Since it does not seem to be a distraction and they sell all the boats they make, for the dollar amount they choose, it wouldn't make sense to at least not try to reach a population they have something in common with.
1 week old baby does wonders for the sleep depravation message rants.

P.S. I am not a religious man, but I thought I read that Matthew, Mark, Paul and John use to rip it up on a hippy stick(ski for those that didn't know) & the ark's hull design was what prompted the Pro Air.

Let me say this about all that. The first competition ski boat I was ever behind was a Nautique. It was one of three that CC donated to a Christan Camp (Malibu) in B.C. I appreciate a company that gives back to its community, especially the youth. In turn I've shown my appreciation with my pocket book.
I also remember a time when on the West Coast you would seldom if ever see a Nautique on the water. The competitions were sponsored by "Budweiser" and if my sources were correct CC would not allow its boats in the sanctioned events. Consequently sales on the West Coast were dominated by Mastercraft (AKA the Beer Boat) and the East was CC.
Finally, its refreshing in this day and age to see a Corporation thrive while publically stating a position that sometimes has not been in the best interest of its bottom line.

If you don't want to see women in bikinis, then don't look at the pictures. That being said CC doesn't put women in bikinis in their catalogs.
If you don't want to read about religion in your competition ski boat catalog, then don't read it. That being said religion is still there...
I am not condemmnng CC in any way. The fact that religion has nothing to do with sales is exactly why I think it shouldn't be in the catalog. And for CC's sake, the point that they try to get across cannot be expressed in writing. And if it is, the wrong reaction can be made, as seen here. When I heard what Gary Meloon had to say to me personally oppose to what I read in the catalog, I have very different reactions. Therefore, to prevent this, I think it is best it be left out of the catalog so only few can get the right idea from the Meloon family.
Now all that being said, each one of us is going to react to religion differently, thats why its a touchy subject. That alone is one reason why it should be left out but thats a whole other story... Me being from a huge city experience life without much religion involved. A lot of things are "just there." All of us talking about religion from all over the world seems like it's just going to lead to complication, as its already starting to. So thats it for me....I Nautique, therefore I am.

Wow, quite a difference in opinions here. Welcome to America, the land of the free!!! I say stand up for what you beleive in. If it offends you that CC puts God in their brochures, don't buy their products. Simple as that. If you are basing your $50,000 buying decision on whether there are thongs or one piece suits on the chicks in the brochure, then good luck buying your next car. I for one care about the quality of the builder and the boat. Hats off to CC for standing up for what they beleive in.
P.S. Lets start a thread about something less heated like abortion or politics!! :shock:Nautique... The final step up.

Do any of you guys get your panties in a bunch over junk mail or add-ins in the newspaper too?

It would be impossible for CC to ignore the their religious background because its part of the very nature and character of the company. The professional workmanship, ethics and customer service are all characteristics resulting from the personal beliefs of their leadership. Whether you like it not - that's who CC is - and they certainly won't advertise anything else....

I knew this was going to be a popular and heated thread...
I don't like offending people and I know CC doesn't want to either. However, this topic can not avoid doing so. So let me appologize in advance if I do offend you. And what I say here is to be taken generally and not is not specific to any one belief or person.
I am not Christian. I am not religious. I probably have similar beliefs as the Meloons (as example) on some issues and the opposite on others. I don't care what your religion is or what its values are so long as you don't hurt anyone or try to change mine. I agree that it's great that a company stand up for its befiefs. If CC wants to build boats in the Glory of God (example again), great. It makes the Meloons happy and I get a great boat. I am in favor of free speech but that doesn't mean I like religious references in my boat brochures. Sure they can put it there if they want to. And I don't have to read them or buy the boat. It's my choice. In my case, I tend to look the other way. At least for now.
My bottom line....I don't belong to a religion until someone makes me. I find the inclusion of the scriptures a little offensive because it puts some elses religion in my face. Sometimes I take a more lighthearted view and find it all amuzing. But when it causes a group of "friends" with a common appreciation to turn against eachother, I makes me want to not belong.
Religion. It's the number one cause of war. I wish it would just go away. :???:
Just to see it from another view...and I realize, this is extreme....and this is not my view...To play Devil's advocate (pun intended)...would your view be different if the boats were built in the Glory of Satan?

Good question. Many of my friends are agnostic, at a minimum, atheists at a maximum. Nonetheless, they all say if there were a heaven and ****, they would far prefer the former.
Religion has always played a large part in my life. However, that's not why I bought a CC. Religion didn't even play a minor part in it. In fact, I oftentimes think that if I put half of the amount I spend on boating into the church, I would be in much better standing with the man upstairs.

So, I am new to the forum, but here is my $.02...
I just bought a SNOB, not knowing the CC company's stance, but when I read the statements, I have to say that I was pleasantly encouraged that my dollars were going to support a company that was bold with their beliefs (MB and Malibu do make similar statements in their catalogues too). We are living in a pretty watered down society where companies are, if for nothing less, scared to affect the bottom line by making such statements. I am proud to own a Nautique, and proud that this company is in many many ways forward in their thinking. I think that I will continue to follow, the boat, the company, as well as the Lord above.
MAN THIS IS A GREAT SITE!!! Glad to have found it!Todd Aalbu

redelf75, your views do not offend me in any way, even if I don't agree with them. I did not buy my Nautique knowing that the company owners were religous, didn't notice it till I found parting the waters in my owners pack. As you said it was my choice to read it or not. I don't find it offensive to listen to someone tell me why they don't beleave in God, what I do not like is when the 10% of people in our great country who do not beleave tell the other 90% of us we can't talk about God cause it offends them.
This great land has become the land of the offended.Life is Short, Live it!
