This is more than a little off the mark. The customer asked me about the boat and what was going to happen with it and I simply told him the truth as opposed to lying to him. I didn't antagonize him or chase him down to offer him the boat...

If that's the case and he did in fact ask if you were going to sell the boat, what price was quoted? Is the OP lying about the price you stated. You continue to avoid the specifics. If you were a stand up dealer you would have showed the guy what was wrong with the boat, fixed it and sold it to him at the cost of purchase plus repair and your fees. A reputable dealer would have recognized someone got screwed and tried to make it right.

So I got a call from the Owner of the River City Boat Sales later that day. He stated that it was him who gave to the ok to buy the boat from the seller. He felt that it was not necessary to notify me because it was what the "seller wanted". I told him that I that had paid and trusted them to represent me in the transaction. I even gave them all my personal infos including address, phone, credit card #....What they did was beyond unethical and I had no choice but to make this public so that they can't do this again to someone else.
He immediately warn me that his company is very powerful and threaten me with lawsuits if I cause damage to his company.
Before hanging up, he even have the audacity to warn me that he had searched and know what I do for a living and where my office is...

Hilarious. What a joke of a dealership, the best part is the more info that comes out the worse they look. Plus, they are going to choke on that boat trying to sell it for that price.

Keep an eye on your credit card account, and keep records of any further threats they make. Other than that, move on and best of luck finding another boat.

I am not convinced that the dealer is innocent and the seller is at fault. It looks to me two scumbags got together and are doing their best to do each other. These kind of shady deals are best to stay away from the dealer probably did you a favor. In the market we have today buyers are dear and sellers are plentiful. In the end all will set right and dealer, seller and 1khp will get what they deserve.

Yeah Yeah Yeah!! Don't tell me, he has a second degree black belt and leap tall building's in a single bound, right?! Don't worry one bit about this clown my friend. Dirt bags who spout off like that are trying to make up for the fact they need the Huble telescope to see their junk.

I've seen enough of these types of threads go down over the years so I am going to leave this thread where it is. Too many times I've seen dealers/manufacturers/etc get flamed to no end no matter how hard they try to explain their side of the story.

I've explained my side of the events and done my best to show the other side. I appreciate the feedback and we will use this a learning experience for the future.

Please feel free to call us if you feel the need to discuss this further. 503-797-2222

How did you know how it was going to end? You don't know the buyer. He hired you to inspect the boat. The seller brought the boat to you AT THE BUYERS REQUEST. Before you inspected it, you bought it. At no time did you contact the person WHO HIRED YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE. Yes, you should leave. You have no ground to stand on and I think you know it.

Frankly, you got away cheap. The seller sounds like a screwball and I wouldn't trust the inspection. You were screwed by the dealer and he knows it. You hired him to inspect a boat yet somehow he knows how it would end? Without talking to you? Hmmm How is that? The dealer had a contract with you. The minute he accepted payment for services, he worked for you. The seller brought the boat to him BECAUSE you asked him to. The fact that the dealer cannot understand this most basic fact tells us all everything we need to know. It was shameful but if you have any belief at all in karma......

Good luck in your search for the perfect boat. It's out there.

I they threatend to sue YOU for causing damage to their company! I think they're doing the damage to themselves with their actions. I went to their website and see they have an over-priced 196 sitting there as well. They may be eating that one too, not only for price, but the fact that PN, CCF and BOS members are now aware of these shady characters.

i agree that this was a blessing in disguise, doesnt sound like a boat you would want. So, you paid them a fee for an inspection and they bought the boat and kept your money? or did they refund the inspection fee? Anyway, i applaud all of our PN members for sticking together and stepping up against a jack-leg dealer. At least we can promote accountability and decency, even if it is seemingly non existent at most of these dealerships ...

I see from their website that they are a Cobalt dealer. If you want to have some big fun here, I would write a letter to Cobalt and tell them your story...That company will not put up with any shady business and will pull his franchise. These "shady" dealers have got to hate the forums...I love it! On the flip side, I am sorry you had to deal with all this crap via time loss, etc...

I agree that there are two sides to every story, but it always amuses me to hear the defensiveness that the statement is usually used in describing the situation. I do believe that you got away clean on this one (1KHP), it sounds like this boat may have been neglected and a nightmare once purchased. Furthermore, this dealership may (and I stress may since I have no idea who they are), have minimized the potential problems and let you buy the boat anyway only to eventually rack up thousands in repair charges. While nothing they (being the dealership or the seller) seems to be overtly illegal, it sure doesn't pass the karma test, and in this day and age where word of mouth is more important that any other type of advertising, it is likely that they will get what is coming to them.
BTW, threatening you and stating that they know where you work???? Bet their daddy has a bigger gun than urs does. Nice elementary school tactics.

Gotta Love that Idea!! Not sure I would stop there either, the local chamber of commerce, BBB, etc.
RCBS are total scumbags and its even more amazing they posted here trying to justify what they did, that certainly puts the BS in Boat Sales!

I would agree, pictures can be deceiving however the boat looks to be in nice shape and based on BS's asking price most likely worth the 33k you had agreed to.

Man would I be ticked off, unless they made good and sold it to you for 33k I would make it my mission to bury those guys!
