      eschreiber799,

I think with your barefooting needs, you will need to get the 409. I am not sure that the 343 has the ponies to attain and hold the speeds needed to barefoot. I have heard of PCM coming out with a new 450HP which I believe is based off of the current 6.0L/409HP platform. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!
I am also wondering if you had the 343 engine and put on a different prop, if it would perform better for barefooting. I am sure someone with more experience and expertise will chime in and give you a more definitive answer. Good luck!

      Matt

PCM is actually coming out with three "new" engines. The HO 303 the 450 and the 550.
I am not sure if Nautique will offer the super charged 550 though.

            barefooter....

            Eric
If you barefoot a lot, what is a lot...10% of your water time? 50% 80%??? do you wake cross?, do you boom?, do you longline and just hang out to one side and not cross the wakes? before you even consider the motor in the boat...consider the boat! have you footed behind a 200 yet? have you TRIED to boom beside the 200 yet? How did the hull spray work out for you? as a fellow footer...DONT buy any boat you have not footed...period...what good is a motor on a boat you wont want to foot behind or beside (depending on how much you foot and HOW you foot) ....I am not condeming the 200....just making sure you get something that you will actually like...
Eric, AFTER you have properly Barefoot Demo`d the 200...and you decide that you liked footing behind or beside it...than ask yourself the question? how fast are you footing? 38, 40, 43, 46mph? if you are a serious footer, there just may better boats out there for you....BUT you will know that when you foot behind them BEFORE you buy them..
            JB

Can you actually put a boom on a 200? maybe an offset boom on a boat with no tower.

There is a small space between the screen and the FCT3 but not a lot and I am sure a straight boom won't fit. Come to think of it, I can't recall seeing any 200's with a boom fitted.

Due to some other threads mentioning the slightly slower top speed of the 200, as compared to the 196, I believe you must absolutely test drive, and ski (foot) behind the model of boat you want. You probably want the biggest engine you can get.

                    ....on an outboard Sanger.

                    Did I just say that?

Wonder if I could squeeze that 550HP engine into my 02' Ski Nautique? That would be a fun ride until you need to refill the gas tank!

I pulled two college barefooters last weekend with a 200OB with the 343. They were able to deepwater start without issue and down the lake at 42mph even. But they are 180lbs or less.

All these guys have said about everything to consider. Assuming you want to go with an inboard. I have been studying several different boats, makers, models, the year the props the hull, the props etcc..
First be clear what you are looking for in a wake. Then that will help the direction of boat purchasing. I just bought an older nautique. I do some footing but I am balancing the pros and cons of all the boats I have skied-footed behind. The best foot wake bar none is the sanger dxll. Actually probably the best all around wake. Though they, and not many boats are built as good as nautiques. I know where a 2006 dxll with a 8.1 motor is for sale though probably dont need an engine that monstrous. the pcm 343 should be plenty-unless you are doing wakes for tournaments at 46 or faster. The main thing is the angle of the arch of wake and the table turbulence. The older-pre 97- nautiques were horrible for that. There is great research about wakes for barefooting at barefootcentral.com. Tell them I sent you. There is a page that shows in detail about the wakes.
