    1995 Sport Natique

Have a chance to buy a 1995 EFI Sport Natique (under 600 hours) or a 1997 Sport Natique that is carb(over 1200 Hours) for $7500.00. It seems the EFI's have some issues from what I have read on this site.

Any recommendations or in site would be appreciated.

I've had my 95' Super Sport GT40 EFI for 8 years now. I haven't had to do anything to it except change the oil and impeller. Runs perfect!

i have a 96 super sport nautique, i would get the ss any day over the sport unless there is a huge price difference. Make sure to see the maintenance records if available. Good luck.

I also just bought a 95 Super Sport V last October and put it in storage. I want it to get nicer and rid of the snow so I can break it out and play with it. It had less than 200 hours and was mint! it has the GT-40 351 EFI motor which runs perrrrrfectly. changed the impeller before I put it away and winterized it. You will love either one, I sugg. the EFI over carb.

The OP was not asking about SS vs S, he was asking about EFI vs Carb. Generally, EFI commands a premium over the carb, and there is a good reason for it. However, if the EFI breaks, yes it will be more expensive to fix, and you will be less likely to be able to fix it yourself.

i know that was not the question at hand, but he is choosing between an S and SS so i wanted to give him my 2 cents about the SS. bottom line is that the V drive lay out vs. dd lay out wins hands down especially if you wana board. the certified correct craft tech here at texas ski ranch has years of gt 40 experience said 87 octane will have no issues with efi systems and i personally have ran both 87 and 93 in my gt 40 and felt no performance difference. efi systems malfunction if fuel sits too long but if you keep it fresh they are maintenance free. they also have 25- 30 more horsepower than the carb'd 351 PCM.

              ?????

Back to the original question, I would take an EFI boat over a carb any day. I refuse to deal with carbs ever again.

Appreciate the input. Looks like it will be the 95'.

                Thanks again.

mattie k27 i was responding to chexi telling me that my opinion of the ss vs. s was not what the OP was asking, which i knew, just wanted to say i was in the same boat between the ss and s and besides the efi and carb differences i would go with the ss for overall benefits, not sure what you missed. what lake in austin will you be on i have a slip across from hula hut til may 1st if you need it. not using it cause my boat is in new braunfels

Appreciate the advice and the offer on the slip but will be taking it up to my families lake house in east Texas.

I'd go efi over carb too.

The efi system on the gt40 is well proven and easy to diagnose if something does happen.

About he only thing that is really more expensive of an efi gt40 is the dual fuel pumps versus the single low pressure pump on a carbed one.

Even so, carbs need cleaning from time to time and parts will fail. On an EFI, if you need a tfi module, or to replace the hose from the HP hose on the FCC, that is probably the worst that can happen.

On a carb, there are so many variables with the internals that unless you really understand them, an EFI is just plain simpler to deal with, and more than likely won't ever need much if any "tuning" like a carbed engine does.
